True.My best ever mileage with Civic A/T is 27 KMPL (Per Mileage indicator). Pic was attached in Civic thread.

How many km has your car done?

So far it has done 3800Km and using instant consumption function during 1st couple of weeks has really taught me how to get good FE which I never knew. But of-course driver has to be very careful looking at display.

I'm getting 17-18km/l with speed around 60-80kmph in mixed city+highway condition and with AC all the time with temp set at 25-26C when alone and 22-23 when someone is sitting behind also.I change the gear when rpm needle just crosses 2000 mark and don't push the accelerator too hard.Fiat cars are slow in 1st two gears so I don't try to race with someone which helps me to keep the mileage in check.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

The instant mileage indicator on Civic tends to fool you with outrageous figures, especially after a reset and initial few kms of drive. I have seen in my manual Civic it jumps from 12/23 to ~25+ (Have attached the picture on the ownership thread). Over longer drive involving few 100Kms it usually settles down to more saner figures of ~15.

Even if i drive slow and sane on a highway the overall efficiency never turns out to be higher than 17.

The FE of 27 KMPL quoted was over 141 Kms.

I guess this is it... I push the car to 3000~4000 rpm in both 1st and 2nd gears. Must change my style. Also the engine feels much smoother after a couple of long drives. My odors stands at 2749 now.

I sometimes wonder, what makes my i20 CRDI give me just a meagre 13kmpl in city and it has not gone beyond 13kmpl at all. It gives me around 17-18 kmpl on highways (120kmph -130kmph). So far, I have covered 15000kms on ODO.

I also don't commute in heavy traffic conditions in Bangalore (mostly)

I have AC constantly on with 21 -22 c all the time. Does this affect my FE?

I am still not able to figure it out why does my car give so less mileage

My Fiat manual says I must expect a 10-15% drop in mileage if I run AC. In your case it would make your mileage 14.3, which is okay. New gen cars have bigger AC compressors so take more power from the engine.

But I still feel naturally aspired diesels of yesteryears give better mileage than the turbocharged engines in new cars. A friends Indica DLG gives 16-18 kmpl in city with AC after 50000+ on the odo, but the sluggish nature takes away the fun from driving.

To be frank, getting the mileage of 14 or 15 would look more like a struggle than a joy drive.

Here are some of the tricks working for me:

1. Always be in the right gear: Stop enjoying that turbo surge, get used to it fast and stop dragging the car to 3000 rpm in that 6 feet gap you find behind the auto-rickshaw. At the same time stop flooring the accelerator at 5 km/hr in 2nd gear also.

2. Avoid brakes: you see that speed breaker 200 ft ahead, take off your foot from the accelerator now!

3. Bangalore is a very dusty city, wash your AC pollen filter once in 3-4 months. its a simple DIY.

Here's the guide (Thanks to Wildon):

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post2433457

Last periodic service, Service manager insisted on getting the AC duct cleaned with some weird smelling chemical. they charged me Rs.800 for it, My cabin is staying chilled at 25c in auto mode now and I am luving it!!.

4. Last but not the least: Move to a fully synthetic oil (I use Mobil Delvac), trust me it work wonders in that delicate darling engine.
First thing you notice would be, you wont use 1st gear every time you slow down for a speed hump.

Cheers!

Asif

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Swift Zdi
Few days back I had gone for a trip to Chandigarh. Its a pretty neat drive now as most of the Highway has been made 6 Lane. During the trip I got FE of 24.54 km/ltr. However the MID displayed 24.9, but when I calculated during Diesel refill it gave me 24.54.

Calculation
Diesel filled @ Rs. 40.91 per lt: Rs. 1250 or 30.55 lts

Distance covered till tank empty: 750 kms

FE: 24.54 kmpl

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

The last 4 times I measured my A-star's FE, it was a consistent 15.95 kmpl. It is quite eerie to see the same figure appear everytime

Method - TFtoTF
AC usage - 100%
City - Hyderabad (Greater Hyd area)
No highway trips during this time.

Verna CRDI @ Bangalore

In the city, I get a mileage of 14-15 kmpl. I consistently use the method of resetting the tripmeter to 0 the instant I get the low fuel warning & then fill up for 1000 Rs & check the number of kms it goes till the warning light comes on again. This method, though not scientific, gives me a fair indication of the mileage.

I recently drove down to Palakkad. Topped up the tank at Bangalore the previous night before the journey, asked the fuel pump attendant to dispense on auto & not fill up manually.

Picture taken after top up.

The AC was on the entire journey. Fuel gauge at various stages:

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-20120405-16.08.41.jpg

Reached Kerala & there was a little more than half a tankful left.

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-20120405-17.28.19.jpg

After driving a lot in Kerala as well (in total about 530 kms I think) without refueling, the needle was almost reaching the bottom. Due to the humid weather, I used the AC when I had to wait in the car for others to join me & even in a traffic jam for a temple fest for about half an hour, guilty as charged

I had planned to leave on Monday after breakfast, but the all too famous Kerala Bandh was called for on Sunday night & we were forced to start by 5:30am the next day. The place that I was staying was part of the bandh, but was lucky as I was just 2 kms away from the district border which if I crossed, life would be normal. So I proceeded to fill up the tank on Sunday night & unfortunately, the fuel dispenser did not have auto cut off. So the fuel attendant manually filled the fuel & he ensured the last few litres were dispensed drop by drop (quite literally). I think I got about 31 lts & my fuel average calculations went out of the window, but still I think the car managed about 18-19 kmpl.

Picture on route to Bangalore & after reaching home.

The difference in kms is due to the routes that I had taken. Onward, I took the Mysore-Gudalur-Palakkad & on return, took the Coimbatore-Salem-Bangalore route.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

2002 Ford Mondeo
City (Bangalore) : 7.5-8.5 (8.5 usually on Shell) 100% AC. Average speed shows 18 kmph.
Highway : 12-13. 100% AC, cruising at 120-140. Once I got 15.5, but that was probably an error.
Used tankful to tankful method.

Gears
