To be honest I was expecting this question but thought that T-BHPians would know that nowhere in our country Diesel is sold at this rate, or is it?

PS: Diesel is sold at Rs.43.37 in Goa IIRC.

Well, just FYI, the diesel costs ~60 rs/litre at Shell pumps.

And before all this discussion goes extremely OT, let me state my Vista's fuel efficiency figures.

Vista petrol 1.2
In City: ~14 kmpl
On Highway: ~ 18 kmpl

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My 4 year old Safari Dicor 4X2 always gave 10+ in Mumbai traffic with a/c on all the time. But and 12 on the highway. But something has gone wrong over the last 2 months and I get 8-9. Am very concerned and have taken it to TASS twice (including one oil change and full sevice)but no improvements.

Any suggestions?

I believe many of us don't like the odd decimal figures for fuel and wish to see round figure at some point of time in our life. So there you are. In Panaji Goa, we have Petrol price at Rs 57.00 per litre. Yes, you read it right. Pic attached as proof.
You guys in Goa are quite lucky to be paying so much less for Fuel. Going by the current rates, Petrol is dearer by just Rs. 14/- or so as compared to Diesel. In Pune, the different is about Rs. 30/-. This would make computing costs and benefits of buying a Petrol v/s Diesel car much more difficult in Goa. I would have bought a Linea T-Jet had I been a permanent resident of Goa.

How are the discounts on Petrol cars holding up in Goa? Are the dealers offering any as compared to other states?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

^^ Given the vast difference between petrol and diesel prices in most places in India, and the increasing trend towards CNG for private vehicles, I think it makes sense to use Rs/km instead of km/lit as a more effective measure of FE. Since diesel cars in general offer better mileage (km/lit) than petrol cars, the net benefit of a diesel car is multiplied and that can only be gathered by comparing Rs/km figures.

For example, my petrol Vento gives me around 10 kmpl regular usage and with petrol at around 73/lit, that's about Rs. 7.3/km.

A Vento TDI gives about 13 kmpl, same usage. Since diesel prics are around 46, that's Rs. 3.5/km.

Though FE (km/l) is 30% better in the TDI, the effective benefit is 52% (not accounting for capex differences). Which is considerable!

That is a very valid suggestion. My 8+ year old Indica DLX has a running cost of Rs 2.55 per km (considering the average price & average FE of last 10 tank fulls). However if I consider the total running till date (1,15,600 kms) & the litres (6234) of diesel consumed till date, then I get an overall FE figure of 18.46 & the running cost per km comes to Rs 2.07 (When I bought the car 8 years back diesel was retailing @ Rs 28-30 per litre (now @ 46.45))

Fortunately for me the capex difference was a mere 10-15K when I purchased my car.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Fuel efficiency of my Figo Diesel is improving drastically after 15 K on ODO. Last averages shows 19.3 per Ltr. It was a mix 50:50 of Highway and Bumper to Bumper traffic in Bangalore with AC on 70%.

I strictly fill my fuel from same pump, Measure my average from ful to full Tank with auto cut off, and use System D as well.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I currently own three cars. The Grand Vitara, i20 CRDI Asta Option Pack and the Ritz ZXI. I get 7-9, 13-15, and 13-15 respectively on these cars. I Maintain all my cars in pristine condition and I get them serviced from the respective authorized service stations at recommended intervals. However I personally feel that the fuel efficiency I am getting is low compared to what I get. The Grand Vitara is equipped with 10mm wider tyres than the stock and stock replacement K&N air filter, the i20 is equipped with 15' 205/60 tyres and momo alloys and the Ritz is absolutely stock.
I hereby request for advice to improve my car fuel efficiency more particularly on the Grand Vitara cos an improvement of fuel efficiency by 1 kmpl will also mean a saving of Rs. 10 per litre of fuel. Please also let me know if my fuel efficiency is the best I could achive in the respective cars.

There is only one issue with this: fuel prices vary substantially across the country, but otherwise makes sense.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Maruti A-Star -

Recently used for a 300 km trip to Mahabaleshwar and surrounding areas. Normal driving (200 km) + enthusiastic ghat section blasts (100 km) + 20 % AC

Fuel Efficiency - 21.4 kmpl.

Dad uses this car in city, so can't say about city FE.
