Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Maruti 800DX 1999- 65000 KM done.

City Driving- 11.5KMPL (with A/C) and 12.5KMPL (without A/C)

Highway Driving- 16KMPL (with A/C) and 18KMPL (without A/C)

Any pointers from anyone as to how to improve this pathetic mileage. Even 5months ago too I used to get better mileage than this with the following defects: I'm running a slightly jammed rear wheel brake and a poor quality front wheel RHS bearing. Any tips and suggestions towards quality work on these two big defects from a competitive garage in north kolkata will be highly welcome.

Both these factor will affect your FE, so get them fixed
. Brake jam - most probably the drum needs machining. When you get it done get both the drums turned on a lathe. Change the brake pads.
. Change both the front wheel bearings ASAP.

No idea of Kolkata, but in Delhi these jobs will not cost more than 5K.

Also check/replace the following
. Spark plugs if more than 15k km old
. Air filter if more than 10k km old
. If it is a carburetor engine, get the carburetor cleaned and jets checked/adjusted, if MPFI get the throttle body cleaned - by dismantling not by just spraying the cleaning fluid.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

The problem here is that there are hardly any good lathe shop who can turn the drums. Also the mechanic here if asked to send the drums for turning say that this isn't possible. Which is why I had to make do with adjusting the liner length screw innumerable times and am really tired and fed up with it. Will also do the rest of the job as suggested by you at the earliest and then see whether there's any improvement or not.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I used to get around 15 kmpl consistently in Bangalore city with Shell normal petrol. Changed over to Shell Helix Ultra Engine oil and following are last 2 top ups mileage -
15.5 - Shell regular
17.3 - Shell super
Though effectively, it translates to almost same kms travelled due to higher price of Shell super.
My car - petrol i20 (old magna). Done 60,000 kms, 40% AC, daily running of 60 kms (outer ring road, varthur road, whitefield - 20% heavy traffic b2b, 80% medium traffic)

I would like to know if shell super really makes such a difference, or is this a one off increase I am seeing - since I have never noticed any considerable increase in mileage before this & before moving to Synthetic oil.

Also, my car started giving better mileage after 20,000 kms, Initial days were in Mumbai and 11 kmpl was the best that I could get in Mumbai. In Bangalore, It has been returning 14.5 - 15.0 consistently for the past 2 years.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Recently my Ritz Vxi returned a whooping mileage of 19.82kmpl on highway.

Route: Kolkata - 2nd Hoogly bridge - Kona Expressway - Kolaghat - Kharagpur - Jaleshwar (and the way back)

Total Distance: 435.3 kms
Fuel Required: 21.96 ltrs (Normal Unleaded Petrol)
No of person: 1 (myself)
Maintained a constant speed in the range of 90-110 km/hr
Driven with AC off.
Composition of kilometers: City = 55 km
Highway = 380.3 km

Measured tank full to tank full from the same petrol pump from the same filling machine (using Autofull option).

I was myself very surprised to see the figures..but this is true..

My car is almost 3 years old and have done a total of around 24K kms till date.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Back from Ooty today. Had filled up Diesel in the Yeti on Wednesday evening in Bangalore. Left on Thursday. Returned an hour back.
Perfect performance. Very enjoyable indeed.
Total Kms done were in excess of 650 including internal Ooty running about.
I have not refilled Diesel yet and as per the tank gauge, appear to have about 1/3rd tankful left! I did not really mollycoddle the vehicle on this trip, but used the accelerator well without really "caning" the car though.
Let me fill up tomorrow and see how much mileage I got on this trip.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Hello All,

Car: Maruti WagonR K10
Distance: 350 kms in normal Mumbai Traffic with A/c on 50% times.
Driving style: normal / moderate (no over-speeding / fast pick-ups)
Fuel type: Normal from same HP Petrol Pump
Fuel Efficiency: 12.25 KMPL.

I maintain engine RPM strictly between 2000 & 3000 & the mileage has definitely improved.

Thanks,

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: New Swift VDi (Feb 2012)
Kms done: 15500

Mileage City : 15 Kmpl with AC, with lowest being 12.5 kmpl
Mileage Highway : 19 - 20 Kmpl with AC, speeds between 90 - 110 kmph, lowest being 16.00 kmpl, owing to excessive flooring of the pedal.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Filled 5.5 ltrs of lpg at HP (that was the only amount fuel left at the bunk) in Santro ECO and it gave me 98 kms.

FE = 17.81 without AC in Hyd city. Too good to be true?
2nd Service (6000Km) due.

703 kms done amd 44litres of Diesel filled.

16kmpl.

No worries so far given that I take the revs up a bit before changing up and this was a drive which includes hill driving in Ooty as well as trafficky driving in Mysore and Bangalore.

Optra 1.6 - Mumbai city: 7-8
Delhi City: 9
Highway: 11
Expressway long drives: 12

Using the full tank calculation method.

If I over inflate tyres (32 psi instead of 30), I get about .75-1 kmpl more. But I don't do it because its not good for my tyres and ride quality.

Edit: all figures are with AC.

On the Elevated Expressway from Electronics city to Silk Board, at ± 80 kmph my Lineas MID showed 28 Kmpl - Cars mileage seems to have improved after car has crossed10k mark. Has anyone got similar experience?
