Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

2013 Honda Brio VX-AT

City commute (Route 1): 9-10.5 kmpl
City commute (Route 2): 11 -12.5 kmpl
Conditions: Route 1 is shorter but has quite a bit of stop and go, Route 2 is longer by a few km but not much of stop and go - Air conditioner & Audio system is always ON.

Highways: 14 - 18 kmpl depending on grade ('cruise' at 90-100 kph, 3-4 passengers, Air conditioner and Audio system is always ON)

Fuel Efficiency calculations up until 9000km on the odo was tankful to tankful but I've found that the FE reading on the cluster is quite close to the tankful to tankful one (current odo reading stands at 14500km).

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Our team in office had to attend a colleague's wedding reception 2 days ago.
It was a 5 hour, 350 Kms drive on good 4 lane empty highways, mostly cruising in the range of 100-120kmph.
We were 4 cars driving together and these were the FEs we got in each of them:
  • 2013 model 1.4 69bhp Diesel Figo = ~16.5kmpl (BP Diesel)
  • 2013 model 1.3 76bhp Diesel Punto = ~17.5kmpl (Shell Diesel)
  • 2010 model 1.2 68bhp Petrol Punto = ~13kmpl (Shell Petrol)
  • 2010 model 1.2 84bhp Petrol Ritz = ~14kmpl (BP Petrol)

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Bought a new DZire VXi (petrol) yesterday and took it to office today. It's a 20+26km commute. And the average FE reading came out to be 17.5kmpl (mind you, this is average FE and NOT instantaneous FE). So, my question to fellow K12 VVT owners is how close are the actual figures to the MID ones?

Same here. Brought a Dzire VXi for farmhouse and took it directly to Kolar from dealership. The MID showed 22.1kmpl as avg FE. FYI, I did not drive in an FE oriented manner at all. For a moment my dad who was waiting at the destination thought we brought a Diesel

Anyways after 200kms of highway driving and some rural town traffic, the MID settled at 19.5kmpl, which is again incredible, after being used to my SX4's max mileage of 14.5 in the same areas.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Recently checked FE for my dzire zdi.. city driving with 75% ac gave mileage of 15.1kmpl. Measurement done tank full to tank full from same petrol pump.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

2011 Ford (fiesta) classic with 37k on the ODO.

473 km: journey through average traffic in 2 lane NH with 50% AC usage. 2 people in car, boot full of luggage.

Filled for 1600=25 litre diesel=18.92 kmpl.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Skoda Rapid TDI Elegance - MY2014

Method used: Tankful to Tankful
Distance covered: 716 Kms (640 on Highway, the rest in bumper to bumper city drive, 3 adults + 1 kid, boot fully loaded during highway stint)
Fuel consumed: 40.64 Litres
FE: 17.62 Kmpl
FE shown on MID: 19.8 Kmpl - Thats about 12% deviation from the actual FE. Does anyone else see this much difference in the figures shown in MID?

MID FE is the result of a calculation done by the ECU - i.e. how much average fuel metered into the cylinders divided by the odometer distance. This will always be on the higher side than the tank-full to tank-full method because it does not account for evaporation losses. There may be other loss reasons also.

Thank you, I know that. But the question was is 12% deviation justified?

There's no information available in the public domain to say it's justified or reasonable.
For my Innova - avg F.E. by tankful to tankful method is 12.5 on a good day. The value shown on MID is ~15.5 which is 24% variance.

And yet, I have always been happy with the 12.5 ... I just ignore the MID value - it does not serve any purpose. So too the Distance to Empty - that too is completely ignored on long trips - the best guide being the fuel level indicator.

Dzire VXi 2014

Reset the AVG meter to "--" at home and just arrived at office. It's a 20km commute of which 5-6km would be bumper-to-bumper traffic. And the avg reading showed 18.5kmpl (with AC; just me in the car). I did not drive in a FE-oriented manner at all.
