While calculating effeciency we should always consider a round trip, otherwise change in altitude will always give a error in effeciency. ARAI effeciency is at constant speed at full load with Ac on, and ambient temperature of 35*C.
For older cars where Ac was an option it was without Ac.
As our load is less, and lower ambient may load the Ac and engine less we can get more effeciency than indicated. For VW Polo it is 23 KM/L, but on two lane roads where we do not exceed 80 higher average often upto 25 can be seen. On a recent 760km trip with ghats, traffic jams, and a 40 km stretch touching 140, but most clear stretches cruizing at 100 I needed 37.6 Lit which is 20.2km/Lit.
My till date effeciency just exceeds 17.5 km/lit with the car having consumed 2900 Lit from purcahse date till last fillup at about 51000 km.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

During summers with AC on full blast my Fluid Verna gets approx 8-9 kms per liter in traffic and approx 11 on the highway.

And I get pretty similar figures on my Elantra as well.

50% of this tankful was not driven by me. I guess the car gave around 18.5 kpl highway mileage when I drove it at 90-110 kmph with AC. That's a completely acceptable figure for me!

Except 50 kms, the car was driven almost entirely by a temporary driver. This is the lowest FE till date

Usage: 20% b2b traffic and remaining in state highways and district roads.
AC always on.
Sedate driving (80- 105 kmph)

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I used to get 14-15 kmpl with 80% highway driving and 20% City Driving on my 2012 Honda City 1.5 V MT. (Tankful method)

MID shows 15.5-16

My Ecosport AT which has a 1.5Lit engine, and is much heavier gives 9 to 10.5 in city and 12.5 with hard driving on highway which climbs to 16 if i genlly cruze at 90 on the highway. A good friend whose office is next to mine has a new Creta AT which is giving 14 in city.

Yep that is what my Ecosport AT gives as well.

Creta AT gives more as it is a Diesel AT, all Diesel vehicles would give a lot more FE than petrol ones.

My Laura AT give 11.5-13 in the City and that was more than what the manual AT gave. A Dual Clutch DSG type box which VW group vehicles and the EcoSport AT too has implies faster gear shifts and greater FE.

The number of Gears too impact FE. The i10AT is 4 speed and hence suffers compared to the manual which is 4 speed, the EcoSport and Laura are 6 Speed and hence match the Manual. This would not be the case with the traditional torque convertor or CVT boxes though.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Maruti Ritz Petrol

Odometer Reading - 19XXX kms
All calculations tankful to tankful
Fuel - Petrol
Tyre pressure - 32 Psi
On board - 5 adults & good amount of luggage
City drive - 150 kms
Highway drive (Del-Dehradun-Del) - 660 kms
AC Usage - 20 %
Fuel Efficiency during the last tankfull - 20.5 kmpl

This is the best FE I am achieved on my car. I am delighted.

I guess, it has scope for improvement with less weight on board & no AC usage.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Friends, yesterday did the third tankful of my Orange Tank (TUV3OO) and it gulped 44.64 litres of diesel after travelling 637 kms, giving me a FE of 14.28 kmpl. After auto cut off there was some manual top up, but not up to the brim. All the running has been within city with 100% AC. Car has run 1350 kms till now and will be one month old tomorrow I.e. 7th Dec.

I think after the first oil change service @ 3K kms, the city FE should stabilize @ 15kmpl. No idea about the highway FE just yet because in the last one month of its existence the tank did not get a chance to stretch its legs. If I am able to extract between 17-18 kmpl from this 1.6 tonner, then nothing like it. Am I being too optimistic

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My mothers brand new Grand i10 A/T gives ~10 km/l. The car just completed 500 kms. This is the third tankful and I'm pretty surprised. I thought it would give ~5-6 km/l

I guess MM was wise to keep it a 3potter for the very same reason ie better FE; quite impressive for a 1.6 ton beast!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

On my trip from Bengaluru to Tirupati and back, the Nano Twist gave a fuel efficiency of 550 kms for a 27 litres, about 20.4 kmpl. On the 4 lane highways it was 23+ but brought down significantly by the two lane. Average speed was 80kmph with 10% AC max. Couple with kid on the board. My Alto returns similar figure and as such Nano's 660 cc did not give any advantage over the 800cc engine. The tachometer though said it was returning 22kmpl

Overall, I need to take the Nano on another long drive to arrive at the true figures.
