Is this normal for the Jetta DSG or can the efficiency be improved?
As per my limited knowledge, the PD engines deliver consistently high FE in the region of around 18-21 kmpl. But obviously,it highly depends on the driving style of the individual too.
What's the engine speed at 100,110 ,120 & 140 kmph in your steed? Does it have a sixth cog?

Printh - I thought i could squeeze around 18kmpl,but looks like a task.I am light footed and a sedate driver i can say.It does have a 6th cog.I really haven't religiously noticed the rpm readings since its an automatic.I can recollect the rpm at 2400 at speeds of 100-110kmph

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My F10 WagonR is delivering an exceptional mileage of 15-17 KMPL on highways these days. In the city, the FE drops to 11-13KMPL. Quite surprising, with growing age of the car(56,000KMS+) on the ODO, mileage is also increasing.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Just completed an 1700 kms run, from Chennai to Kolkata in my ole gal, 2005 Swift (G13B). It returned 14.8kmpl with continuous A/C use when passing through the warmer weather states of TN & AP. And 15.2kmpl without A/C. All measurements were on tankfull - to - tankfull basis. Cruising speeds were in the range of 90-110 kmph. Vehicle was considerably loaded with two passengers and the load bay as well as rear seat area stuffed with luggage.

Skoda yeti 4x4 elegance 2013 model having run 30k kms thusfar. In city, I receive 12kmpl (I travel daily from Jp Nagar to whitefield through orr, so bangaloreans might know the kinda traffic in this stretch). In highways, I received 17 kmpl with full tank to full tank measurement. Ac on 100 %, with highway speed of average 100+

Honda Amaze smt idtec 2013 model with 34k on the odo. In city (bangalore) I get around 16-17 kmpl and on highways 21-22 kmpl. All with 100% Ac.
The above is with BP diesel. Using shell will improve refinement but FE takes a hit of about 1-2 kmpl.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

It will not be surprising to S Cross owners but this is the average fuel you will get in a DDiS200 in normal city traffic with AC on.

I don't understand. Much lighter Swift diesel returns 15kmpl in city traffic with AC on. With "city traffic" do you mean b2b traffic or moving in 3rd/4th gear for long stretches?

The fuel efficiency of S Cross has surprised many, in a B2B traffic you will get ~ 17 km/L.
The figures quoted are in normal city traffic that I encounter daily. The average is 20 and the best is 22 km/L. ( Yes -in 3rd/ 4th Gear)

WagonR 2010 model K series engine.
42k on the odo.
Give 14-15 consistently in city drives.(not b2b)
Haven't checked on highways since we don't have any.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Have been getting around 15 to 17 kmpl on my Polo 1.2 TDi in the city. On the highways, its up to 22km/l or even better, if i keep the speed below 90kmph.

The Ciaz we have has similar FE with similar mileage. Mine is a mixed drive of city and highways. But its remarkable as S Cross is heavier by 100 KG!

Surprising! No.
Suzuki is the tuning king. With every iteration they somehow manage to increase the efficiency irrespective of the weight. I don't think they are so clever to use some software to cheat. One thing I have noticed that the volume of black smoke comes out from ddis engine is much less than other diesel engines. So good FE achieved with less visible pollution. Now let the figures do the talking.

S-Cross Zeta 1.3 (August 2015)
Fuel: Diesel
ODO : 8000 Km
City - Highway :: 100-0
AC: 80%
Method: tank full
Load: Average 2 people on board
Last tank full: 310 km
Fuel used - 16.48 liters
Average : 18.8 Km/l
MID : 19.1 Km/l
My daily drive includes peak hour 16 km rush from bellandur-EC which takes between 40-60 minutes. I don't drive sedately but get to drive on all gears. The spike in FE might be attributed to cold weather to some extent but on the similar lines my previous ritz ddis never gave more than 17km/l even without AC.

Secondly I drove my brother's new Baleno aplha during last weekend
Suzuki Baleno Alpha 1.2 petrol (November 2015)
Fuel: Petrol
ODO : 2000 Km
City - Highway :: 20-80
AC: 100%
Method: tank full
Load: Average 3 people on board
Last tank full: 450 km
Fuel used - 24.5 liters
Average : 18.36 Km/l
MID : 18.8 Km/l
Mighty impressed with the car.

Again ,the same steed - VW Vento 1.6 tdi

Distance : 3417 kms ( mixed usage - 20% town traffic + remainder in district roads and little bit in state highways.
Full time a/c
Occupancy : mostly two ,occasionally one or four.
Luggage : insignificant.....
Fuel consumed :172.3 L
Efficiency :19.831 L
Driving style: 90% sedate cruising and remainder aggressive drives.

Care: Religiously top up nitrogen every fortnight and do alignment balancing bang on every 5000 kms.

Completely driven by me. This tankful included B2B, short trips, two PVNR runs and late-night runs from functions.

FE of petrol Swifts, I observed, is extremely sensitive to driving styles. I usually upshift at >2,000 rpm (max 3,000 rpm) in city.
