Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Hello people.

Let me share a long-term fuel efficiency report with you. The car in question is a Hyundai Fluidic Verna 1.6 Petrol, which has covered 17721 kms in the last 397 days since 13.4.2015, the day from when the log was started. The odometer stands at 78352 kms as I am typing this.

I got the car in my hands in 2013 with the odometer around 33k kms. I wasn't really particular/concerned about the fuel efficiency and used to focus on driving fun until 2015. In April 2015, the bug got me and I started noting down the relevant details in a notes app on my mobile phone. It has been 42 tankfulls and there is no looking back!

*Some noteworthy points

Total distance covered : 17721 kms in 397 days
Log start date : 13.4.2015
Log end date : 13.5.2016 (after 13 months)
Average monthly running : 1265.79 kms
Total fuel used : 1431.37 L
Average FE : 12.67 kmpl
Best FE : 15.75 kmpl
Worst FE : 7.94 kmpl
Maximum tankfulls in a month : 5 (in July 2015)

The drive has been in city limits (<100 kmph) most of the time, with a sizable amount of traffic jams thrown in. Speeds are in the 20-60 kmph range most of the time as the road condition here isn't that good. Highway drives have been very limited, at around 1k kms in the last one year. Aircon usage has been according to the weather. 100% for 4-6 hot months and 0% (blower only) otherwise.

I am not at all disappointed by the efficiency as the car has been a trusted workhorse. Based on my driving style (a bit aggressive in the 2nd and 3rd cog), I was expecting a lower figure actually. Our Dzire, being a 1.2L, gives around 13-14 kms to a litre.

Below are some screenshots of data and stats, when entered in Fuelio App :

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-screenshot_201605131910231.png

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-screenshot_201605131910261.png

Do note that the cost per km and other readings related to fuel price are not 100% accurate as I didn't note down fuel price of majority of my fill-ups. So I have set it to a constant Rs. 58/L.

Also note the change in FE in different seasons of the year due to aircon usage, in the below graph from Fuelio App :

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-screenshot_201605131910431.png

Hope this information will help prospective buyers and owners. I will keep updating every 3 months.

Regards,
biggrin

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Is the new Figo more fuel efficient than the Swift when it comes to actual figures? Especially in city drives?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Dzire Zdi gives 15 to 16 ( with AC ) in city during rush hours.
Last week I drove from Lucknow to Kanpur and came back the same day, with 5 persons with continuous AC and average was 22 ( speed varying from 70 to 110 ). As there were so many villages and townships in the route, driving beyond 110 was not possible.

Fully synthetic oil is not going to make difference to economy unless you are really irregular with your oil changes. What is your usual drive like?

It's mostly start stop driving with avg of 5 stops in a daily run of 10-12 KM. With this running, I don't think I can expect any better from a petrol AT.

Though I have switched to Shell full synthetic oil when the car went for service.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

So I got a pre owned 2008 CRV and it's mileage was erratic. Sometimes as low as 5...sometimes 8 and yesterday on the highway with very sane driving (pretty tough to do in such a vehicle)...got 11. Go figure.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Honda Jazz IDTEC exactly 1 month old.
2500kms covered, impressed with FE figures so far. I think i will settle at around 22kmpl - post 3 services (at 10K kms).
Mine is 70% city drive, 30% highway - with 100% AC ON.

I fear it's something to do with late oil, filters change as 15,000 Kms is too long for our conditions ( discussed in our forum many a time). Is that so or am I hypothecating a reason?
As Turbohead said, my Vento TDI used to give better mileage just before the service. However I see a different reasoning for that. My service is in January and Ventos give better fuel economy in cold weather. So I attribute it to the weather.

Verna 1.6 Diesel. Couple of months back, on a drive to Dharwad, maintained 90 kmph on 6th gear for the entire drive. Was very hard to do it, but this was the result. Managed 950 Kms with 40 litres of Diesel. Highest so far 😁

Why would you drive with FE in mind for such a long stretch? While this FE is astonishing, attributed to the 6th gear in the Verna, I fail to understand why would you do that, when you admitted it was hard to do so.

this was just one time. Wanted to see how much FE I could extract out of the car. I had all the time. It was a test of my patience and perseverance. Usually I cruise at 110-120, car gives me a solid 19-20 kmpl.
