No wonder Maruti diesel sells hard
An engine performing well versus the OEM selling something hard are different things. Maruti has to pay royalties to Fiat for plonking their 1.3L MJD engine per Maruti car. What was the price per car paid to Fiat by Maruti? Rs.40,000 if I am not mistaken.

I am actually led to believe Maruti hard-sells their petrol variants more - be it pricing or the subtle pressure that a Maruti sales guy would apply on you.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

@ All

I've discovered that with 7 adults in my TUV 300 and a wind-catching rooftop luggage load, I get 15 Kmpl on the highway. Whereas, with just 3 adults and zero luggage on the top, I've derived 18.5 kmpl on the highway.

My my, 26kmpl on an automatic! Unbelievable! Maruti sure does know how to extract the last bit, i hope it does carry forward with the next set of BSVI engines.
I haven't seen many reports from Ford Figo first gen owners. Below are the average numbers for my Ford Figo 2013 TDCi:
City driving with mixed traffic and AC on all the time: 15kmpl
Highways with mostly 2 people onboard and AC on 50% of the time: 19kmpl
Recently came back from a long road trip (Bangalore-Mangalore-Sringeri-Udupi-Gokarna-Goa-Hubbali-Bangalore) which had a mix of all sorts of roads over 2K kms(Not driven within Goa much) and the FE averaged out to 18kmpl.
These are average numbers measured tankful to tankful at auto cut off always. The numbers are averaged out over a year and 16000+ kms of ownership. The lowest number seen is 14kmpl and the highest is 21kmpl. Driven with a slightly heavier foot, shifting up at around 3.5K rpm most of the time(beyond which there is no point).

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My 5 month old 5700 KM run Verna petrol MT returns 9.8 to 10.5 in a mad city traffic (Pune guys would know Mundwa signal and Mundwa - Hadapsar stretch), average speed as per car computer remained in 16km - 18km per hour zone.

Short highway dash in likes of Pune - Shirdi returns in the range of 15km to 16km per litter of petrol.
I have done only one long highway trip which was Pune - Goa return trip with 3 days on Goa roads. This returned near to 19 KM/L, but the car was running in and I hardly crossed 2k RPM.
I follow full tank (auto cut off) to fuel tank method and strictly use Shell regular petrol.

How many times did you refuel in those 769kms to come up with a sample size large enough to calculate the Max, Min and Avg values using Tankful to Tankful method?

Or am I missing something here?

PS: Another doubt I had, you mentioned none of the 5 passengers had sweaty backs, whereas here in this thread you mention that the car had no passengers except the driver:

2 full tanks each of about 39 litres IIRC.

The 5 passengers were actually seated in a round trip of 260 kms.

Balance done with 1 person in the car.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: WagonR 2011
Engine: K10 1.0L
ODO: 72200

Trip 1
Distance covered: 1067 kms
Fuel consumed: 55 litres (2 tankfuls)
Avg. FE: 19.4 kmpl
Driving conditions: 95% highway, 5% city, 100% AC. Since I drove all through the night, I encountered very sparse traffic enroute.

Trip 2
Distance covered: 995 kms
Fuel consumed: 52.5 litres (2 tankfuls)
Avg. FE: 18.9 kmpl
Driving condition: 85% highway, 15% city, 100% AC. I was driving through the day and hence encountered a lot of traffic in the cities and their outskirts.

Speeds maintained were 80-110 kmph throughout for both the trips.

Thanks for the clarification. Couple of more queries:

How much did you get in each tankful? From what I can understand, in two tankfuls, you can get two readings. So how come you reached Max, Min and Avg Figures based on just two readings?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My Hexa XM 4x2 [Jan 2018] done 18K km, consistently gives 19-20 kmpl on highways if I drive in 85-100 kmph range. This is achieved yesterday on Yamuna Expressway.

Hexa does not register FE above 20.0 kmpl, there is some software limitation.

For regular city drive or for 120 kmph speed, FE drops to ~15 kmpl range.
