Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Hello all,

This is fuel efficiency for my Creta Auto.
Thanks to the WFH situation, driving is mostly in Pune city for very short runs of about 3-5 km. Apart from that have done 4 runs on the Pune-Mumbai expressway and 2 longer runs to tourist destinations.

Car: Creta 2017 SX+ Auto
Fuel: Diesel
AC: On 90% of the time

Total distance covered since I purchased this car: 3669 km
Total distance on Odo: 20668

Avg speed within the city: max 40 km/hr.
Avg speed on the expressway: 100-120km/hr
No. of passengers (excluding the driver): 1
Luggage: Three cabin bags (for outstation drives)
Overall Fuel economy: ~11.3 kmpl
Last expressway run fuel economy: ~13.7 kmpl

Let me know if these figures are as expected or I am getting lower fuel efficiency.

Regards.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Hello All, i own a Chevrolet Sail Diesel - Mar'17 make. It is the 1.3 Ltr Multijet Dsl engine.

I have driven the car for over 32000 KM till date. AC is on 100% of the time. Switched off only on those rare occasions when we are driving through mountains where there is nice clean air.

Average fuel efficiency that i get is around 13.5-14 kmpl in city traffic and around 20 kmpl on highway drives. Fuel efficiency has increased by about 1-1.5 kmpl over time (Various factors - engine run in completed and less traffic due to covid)

I always fill from Shell and use the auto cutoff to auto cutoff method for calculating the fuel efficiency.

Total distance covered: 960 kms
Avg speed on expressway: 100-110km/hr
No. of passengers (excluding driver): 3
Luggage: One trolley bag.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I take this as an outlier and expect much better fuel economy figures on my next highway run?

Thanks!
Travelling above 80 kmph gives poor FE. So much so, that in your case it equated to city driving. In your next highway run if you can keep speed between 80 to 90 you will get much better FE. Keep us updated

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Hi All.

I bought a 2019 Honda Amaze CVT Petrol last year. Due to heavy traffic across Mumbai, I am getting milleage of max 7-8kmpl. Most of my driving is within city and hence primarily I have driven in heavy traffic conditions due to metro work,. Is something wrong with my driving style or that is normal for CVT Petrol automatic in such heavy traffic conditions. Note that this milleage is for driving in D mode.

The best I have got is 16kmpl when I drove for about 200kms highway trip.

Thanks.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I see very impressive FE figures on this thread for a number of cars. It boggles my mind as to how people are able to extract 25+kmpl on cars.

I own an Audi A3 35TDI (2.0L Diesel Engine). On a recently completed drive from Bengaluru to Sakleshpur (a little beyond actually) and back, I drove a total of 550km at an average speed of 50 or 55kmph. On the tank full method, I managed to get 17.2kmpl. The first hour and 15 min was spent in Bengaluru evening traffic. I may have driven around 2.5-3 hours on winding roads and subsequently bad roads around Western Ghats.

Is there a particular driving style that helps increase fuel efficiency? I usually am very light footed and try to stay between 90 and 100 kmph on the highways with RPMs hovering around 1,600 - 1,900 only. Just curious about how one can look to extract more out of this beautiful engine of mine.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

17.2 is a good number and I wonder extracting more is possible.

When I am in fuel saving mode, I try to drive with minimal braking, more coasting and over- inflate the tyres a couple of psi(which is not recommended btw). I also don't use foot wear which helps me to modulate the throttle better and if the condition is favourable I also dont' use a/c. And I have managed to extract upto 8km/l(according to MID). Turning off the a/c itself would return a couple of extra kms.

There are also other factors like the car's weight(which we can't control and a heavier sedan will return less mileage than a lighter hatchback ), number of passengers and luggage. I use cruise control whenever I can on highways and stays around 70-80 km/h.

With 5 passengers and luggage(mostly clothes for 2 days stay) and with aircon at 22, tyres at 36psi, speed 70-80kmph, my Polo 1.2 tsi has managed to return a healthy(for me)18km/l (MID) mileage on a 400-450kms road trip in Kerala highways.

Tata Tiago Diesel (City) - 17 kmpl with 30% running with Aircon on.

Honestly i did not get a chance to go at highway and do 100-200 kms trip to come up with avg figures...Thanks to COVID

TVS Jupiter - Give me around 45 kmpl not used much though

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Make - Maruti Suzuki Celerio ZXI AMT (O) 2019 Petrol
Kms run - 22000

The odometer shows 17.7 km/l as an average of over 22000 km.

Highway best I have got is 24 km/l BLR-Chennai with AC on 100%.

Last drive to Mangalore, varying conditions (Ghats+Highway+Mangalore city) was 18.4 km/l

If possible, can you please check and share Average Speed of your odo too?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Got a FE of 13.5 kmpl on my Uncle's 2019 Honda Jazz Petrol CVT. This was majorly on the highway from Sawantwadi to Pune.
While on the other hand our 2013 Dzire DDiS gave a FE of 20 kmpl from Karad to Suburban Mumbai. Both figures as per MID.

I drove an acquaintance' Jazz CVT few days ago & it felt too heavy to me. Somehow it seemed that the car was under undue load, much more than i20 petrol manual owned by my brother. Coincidentally I drove the i20 on ther weekend & it felt bit better than the Jazz CVT. Guess it would take some while to get accustomed to CVT behaviour & get best of it.

This was my first time driving an automatic, so outright acceleration & punch which I'm used to in my diesel Dzire & Amaze was missing! But the Jazz felt incredibly smooth & refined compared to my cars.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Guys,
Our 2014 VW Jetta Diesel AT has been giving dismal fuel efficiency of 6-8 in the city.

Though we used to drive it in less traffic areas earlier. Due to work we need to drive in real bad traffic everyday since a few months. I yet dont think we should get just 6- 8.

Please note that the car does not even touch 4th gear such is the traffic and lots of idling. Can this cause such bad fuel efficiency in a diesel car? No other issues as such, no warning lights etc.

Appreciate your help.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Due to lockdown and WFH car has become a garage queen since 1.5 years. Barely 1700kms since April 2020 till now. Of which last tankful lasted for around 400kms(all within city).

Model : 2019 Jazz VX CVT
T2T method FE: 11.1kmpl

Tanked up at 107.xx/Litre. 35 litres it took amounting to ~3800. Fuel cost turns out to be ~9.5/km. Phew!!!
