Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

1) Make - Hyundai Creta 2017 Diesel 1.6 AT Sx+
2) Fuel Type - Diesel Normal Shell
3) Current Odometer - 23318 (My driving 6000+ since I got this pre-owned)
4) Highway & City split - 80% Highway & 20% City (This is for last 2 years due to Covid situation. Otherwise it would be exactly opposite).
5) AC on time - 100%
6) Average Fuel Economy (Tank full method): 11.86 Kmpl
7) Average Fuel Economy on recent trip to Konkan (Tank full method): 12.19 Kmpl
8) Average speed on Highway: 70 - 90 kmph

Most of my highway trips are with usage of heavy foot.

Now I plan to keep driving speed below 100 even on expressway and 80 on state highways. Already got one speed ticket.

Other Creta owners do let me know if you see similar FE or this is too low?

You are ripping the diesel motor with any tangible benefits. I'm sure it can be around 17 kmpl if driven unlike the previous petrol car yy owned. The trick is to understand & okay with the power band of the engine. The meat of power & economy is under 3000 rpm (at speeds you have mentioned).

Highway speeds between 90-110kmph.
5th Gen Honda City ZX CVT. Completed a 700km trip (90% highway, 10% city) during the New Year break. 4 adults + 1 kid + AC ON 100% of the time + boot full to the brim. 90-115kmph. 15kmpl. Not bad I say

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Team,
Just reproducing my notes from Tata Harrier thread, as I felt this is more appropriate place.

I had recently completed a 982 kms round trip and used this opportunity to check the FE of my XZA.

The drive was 60% on National Highway, 30% on State Highways, 10% City traffic, varying drive modes, moderate AC and importantly my usual style of driving.

All these lead to a FE of 12.2 kmpl with a T2T method (however the MID was showing 14.5 kmpl).

Considering the hefty build and my aggressive style of driving, I felt this a reasonable yield.

Just completed the 3rd service and hope it would improve the mileage slightly.

Is it a myth or reality that after Engine Oil change, the vehicle mileage will increase ? If increases, by what percentage ?

Request expertise and experienced to comment.

Cheers !!

The engine is already run-in. Now the 3rd service is the one where oil replacement is done. So the engine gers fresh oil.

This is indeed good for fuel efficiency, but I don't think it will be substantial. At maximum the improvement can be 0.5 kmpl.

Yeah I felt very guilty looking at the fuel economy figures. Would try to rein my passion. It does take time to adjust to driving diesel automatic as compared to petrol Honda engine.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Volkswagen Vento TSI 2019:

City: 11-12.5 kmpl (30% bumper to bumper, 70% normal traffic i.e. 30-40 kmph cruise)
Highway: 16.5-17 kmpl (30% Himalayas, 30% state highways, 20% highway, 20% expressway).
Expressway: Such as Yamuna Expressway; cruising at 90 kmph, I get 19.5 kmpl.
Sports mode: Max 6 kmpl.

Within city I don't cross 50 kmph. My highway speed is 90 kmph with a short burst of 110-115 kmph. AC is on at all times.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car- 2010 Skoda Laura 1.9 TDi with a remap and downpipe
Distance Covered- 795 KMs
Pune -> Navi Mumbai -> Nashik(+small runs within Nashik) -> Pune (+office commute for 2 days) -> Navi Mumbai -> Khalapur iocl.
DTE still showed 270 KMs and the car took in around 47Litres diesel which translates to approx 16.9Kmpl.
This is a mix of aggressive and calm driving.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

After going through about 3-4 pages of actual fuel efficiency messages, its safe to say that with everything else the same, i.e. driving style, and fuel type, sedans dont just offer marginally, but substantially better FEs than their SUV counterparts. It can't be just the aerodynamics, (though i'm sure that plays a part). SUVs tend to weigh more too, and maybe ground clearance? Though I doubt GC would play much of a role, considering many sedans have GCs close to SUVs.

OT, Would the same variation be seen between the Tata EV siblings?

Though I have a petrol Creta, I feel your FE is very low given yours is a diesel one ! I get FE anywhere between 12 - 15 kmpl in the city drive ( a tier 3 city so traffic is sparse). On my recent trip to Rajasthan, the MID showed average of 17 KMPL for me, the car was fully loaded, AC on always.

I agree. These nos for a diesel Creta look too low for the driving style he described. Like you said these are petrol figures.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Current stats for Sonet D-AT.
I can extract a bit more mileage but then there will be no fun to drive factor.
This is with 20% AC use.
Mostly driven in ECO, Normal and Triptonic modes depending on traffic. Sports mode was never needed.
This is tank full to tank full as MID always show 1.5-2 kmpl more.
Completely driven in Faridabad/Delhi traffic.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

On a recent trip, my 2014 Tata Zest 90 PS D gave an average of 20.2 kmpl for 1816 km. The least was 19.8 kmpl and the best was 21.2 kmpl. Measured it by tank full to tank full method, we were 4 members with boot full of luggage and with AC on always, maintaining 80 - 100 kmph on four laned roads and 70 - 80 kmph on two laned ones.

I never rely on MID readings. In fact, my display setting is at DTE and not average fuel consumption. Normally I do not even bother with FE but after a long time I decided to check it. I know that would be above 19 kmpl but decided to check it any way and the 20.2 kmpl didnt surprise me.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

2009 Alto, 39k on Odo ~ 14.5 kmpl in city, 20 kmpl highway. 2000 Splendor, 163.5k on Odo, city use ~ 66 kmpl, never took it on highway. Checking method tankful to tankful for car, reserve to reserve for bike. Fuel used is BP Speed, both run on Helix Ultra synthetic oil.
