What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-img_20221216_172201552_hdr.jpg

Question - What is the best speed to get the max mileage? Is it the top most gear? The Tucson gets into the 8th gear only after 85 - 90 km/h. Does that mean that the best FE will be given by the car once it reaches the top gear (beyond 90 km/hr)?

May be due to Drag, Aero Dynamic efficiency. My 2019 Apr 1.2 Wagon VXI Amt used to give 12 in city and 16/17 in Highways (Now sold).
My 2019 Dec Dzire ZXi AMT gives 15/16 in City and 21 in Highways

Most FE mode is the "Cruising Speed", it is a combination of gear and speed, and is at the RPM that is at Peak of Torque curve.

Depending on the torque curve and the body resistance the most FE speed may be at 90 in top gear, but if the body is boxy and offers a lot of wind resistance it may be at a lower speed.

My Zest 90 PS QJet has only once shown me 20+ kmpl on the MIL. This was on a Pune to Mumbai run (via expressway) with just two on board.

Otherwise I have only managed ~18 kmpl on any highway run which further drops to ~16 kmpl in Pune City.

Odo is at 55xxx. This thread makes me feel this is abnormally low for the kind of driving I do (seadate-ish)!!
I regularly get 21 kmpl plus on highways and around 19 kmpl in mixed driving conditions. I drive sedately, maintaining around 80-90 kmph, with AC on 100% of time.

Mine is a 90 PS diesel XM, 2014 model which clocked 1.38 lakhs till date. Mileage has been consistent all through the 8 years. Only time I noticed a drastic drop in fuel efficiency was when the car driven very spiritedly, with 5 passengers and their luggage, on Sabarimala ghats where it returned 17.8 kmpl.

Interesting numbers these. Have you found the mileage deteriorating as the clutch wears out? My FNG says the clutch plates need changing. I feel this *could* be a reason for the lower mileage I get.

Odo has just crossed 60k. Mileage according to MID is 18kmpl even on highway runs (90PS XM Diesel 2015)

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

4 year old S cross Diesel recently serviced I decided to try to drive with a light pedal wanting to extract max efficiency

Did a run of about 80 km , south delhi to gurgain to west delhi and back in normal traffic conditions ( last leg was rush hour) on a weekday noon to 6 pmish

To my surprise the car that usually showed 16-17 kmpl when my driver used to drive hit the upper max caliberation of 30 kmpl !! mostly during the entire trip and only dipped a bit in the last busy leg.

of course, there was only 1 person in the car, ac off, windows up and minimal braking. What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-whatsapp-image-20221224-09.37.46.jpg

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: 2018 Tata Nexon XE Petrol
Odo: about 70100 km
Daily driving: 50km in the city and outskirts
City: Nagpur
AC: On
Passengers: 1/2
Speed: Upto 80kmh
My dad gets a consistent 14-15 kmpl on the MID over a 1000km cycle with City mode. Highway figures are not much better, as Sports mode is preferred.

If the clutch is not properly adjusted initially, that is it engages at a slight touch, then yes as it wears out the clutch will slip and that increases fuel consumption.

I always get the clutch adjusted so that the first cm or so of travel is free and then the clutch engages. That is the first cm does not engage. That takes care of clutch wear. Anyway the clutch normally travels four cm or more so there is no problem in engaging the clutch fully.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Did a Jaipur-Gurgaon this morning. Mostly cruise control at around 80.

The Octavia 1.8TSI with AC on a cool sunny day returned 19.2kmpl for most part. And ended the journey with 18.8kmpl.

My Octavia has had its low FE days, but since the last service (they actually changed oil, it seems! and I got the battery changed), its been happy on the FE front, unless I choose to use triple digit horses.

I changed my clutch kit at around 1.08 lakh km. Till then I didn't notice a drop in mileage. But then, my car is driven mostly on highways - almost 80% of it is on highways.

I noticed the actual mileage ( with tankfull method) is about 2 km higher than what is shown on MID. However, one might note that MID calculator works differently and should only seen as indicative. Try tank full method to learn how much does your car give.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Hyundai i20 elite Asta Petrol 1.2

Recently did a 3600 trip Pune - Vadodara - Modasa - Nathdwara - Mundra - Vadodara - Pune. Car was fully loaded, with 2 kids + 2 adults during onward journey and 2 kids + 3 adults during return leg.

Tankful to tankful : Best it gave was 18.4 Kmpl and worst was 14 (when car did a lot of short hauls)

Overall avg I believe will come to 16.
Slightly on lower side but I am not complaining as car was loaded + Hyundais aren’t known to be fuel efficient. Moreover, thanks to the car, we did the 3600 kms with comfort.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My 2016 Skoda Rapid 1.5 TDI DSG according to Fuelio app is giving 16 kmpl in daily usage 80 percent city and 20 percent highway. The MID shows 18 kmpl average.

My 2022 Hyundai Creta 1.5 D AT is giving me 13.5 kmpl average according to Fuelio app, MID shows 16 kmpl average. Daily usage being 80 percent city and 20 percent highway. The best mileage I got was 24 kmpl on the highway as displayed on MID.

The mileage figures are with AC on & driving within speed limit.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Jeep Compass Model S 2022 - Diesel Automatic

Traveled from Chennai to Villupuram and back. Drove with a light foot for the most part and with AC turned on (along with ventilated seats) all the time. MID trip displayed FE of 16.5 kmpl, whereas tankful-to-tankful worked out to 15.75 kmpl.

Switching MID to always shows the Fuel Economy screen has changed my driving style for the good. Now, I drive with a light foot maintaining a steady speed and don't use the brake as much.
