Does engaging cruise control has any direct impact on FE? If I drive at a constant speed of say 80 kmph without cruise control and same 80 kmph with cruise control, theoretically it should result in same FE. Yes, manually it may not be possible to maintain an exact speed of 80 kmph for long ( may vary between say 78 to 82 kmph), but that should not have a significant impact on FE.

Am I missing any thing?

Thanks.

I'll share some articles which can say everything better than me.

Quote:
Cruise control can help you become more fuel-efficient and can help you save an average of 7-14% on gas thanks to its ability to maintain a continuous speed. In comparison, the constant change in acceleration and deceleration of the driver placing their foot over the pedals can eat more gas.

Quote:
Does Cruise Control Save Gas? Absolutely. If you're cruising along a mostly level highway, electronics generally are far better at avoiding the little speed-up/slow-down events that are inevitably caused by a weary accelerator ankle or an inattentive mind. It's those changes in momentum that waste fuel, because force equals mass times acceleration. Using cruise control is beneficial on mostly level ground, as well as on long, steady uphill or downhill grades.

Another article.

There are some caveats too, but basically unless you can mimic an automatic system, you can easily save fuel by engaging cruise control on flat roads and long highways.

Kia Sonet HTX DCT, 9-11 kmpl in city (most times are peak travel) and 14-16.5 in highways with AC on for all cases in the 2.5 months I have owned.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Since past 2 weeks its been too hot in Bombay and I have been using my Baleno CVT more often rather than ola / uber or AC bus for daily commute. Baleno has been quite efficient over a distance of 20 kms in light to medium traffic. Worst when i get stuck in a taffic jam, efficiency hovers around 15 kmpl. Aircon set on 22 full time.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Getting 28-33 Kmpl on my Grand Vitara Hybrid bought in April 2024. The trips shown are in Gurgaon-Delhi in moderate traffic conditions.

Being in NCR, I keep my speed well within speed limits which is where this engine shines. These are with AC around evening time. Afternoons are bit lower around 25-28 Kmpl when AC runs on higher levels.

Needless to say I am happy with the purchase!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car is BMW 530e PHEV. I recently drove 400Km and averaged 19.8 km/l at an average of 75 kmph. The energy usage includes 10kwh of battery charge, and this FE*is incredible for a 250bhp car weighing around 1.7 tonnes. I recall*getting 17km/l on a 1100km trip last year.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Recently, I got my Baleno serviced and opted for injector and throttle body cleaning, hoping to get better mileage and power. Surprisingly, I am feeling the opposite regarding mileage since the last two tank full readings.
Although I was stuck in the worst traffic for at least an hour with AC on at the lowest setting with five people on board.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Toyota Corolla Altis 2009 1.8G Petrol Manual.

City Mileage - 8-9 kmpl with speed between 30-60kmph

Highway Mileage - 12-14.5 kmpl at speeds between 95-120kmph

Current odometer reading - 119000kms

I think it would have been 10% more if I would have kept the tyre size to stock 195/65R15, currently she runs 205/65R15. Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Stats for my 2022 Kia Seltos (1.5 petrol MT) for the month of May:

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-img_1932.jpeg

The car took 72.2 litres of fuel in total (filled in two instances, to the brim, from the same pump every time) which translates to a tank-to-tank figure of 11.4 km/l. Drive was mostly solo, in city, with minimal traffic, AC always on and 6-7 hours of idling (which explains the average speed of under 20 km/hr).

Although the efficiency is great for a petrol, I am quite alarmed by the deviation of almost 2.5 km/l from the MID-indicated figure.

Depends on the car. In my Octavia, cruise control is more efficient than whatever I try. But with Maruti, cruise control is beatable easily.

I think it is to do with how precisely can cruise control manage the throttle to maintain speed.

E.g. manually you can keep throttle fixed at a certain point and the car with move around 3-5kmph but be efficient, but a cruise control tries to vary throttle to maintain exact speed, which isn't always efficient unless done well!

Chevrolet Sail Hatchback/UVA - Fuel Efficiency/Millage

Hi Folks,

Historically I have had poor fuel efficiency/millage on my Chevrolet Sail Hatchback of 8-10 kmpl as well as poor pickup. I had always thought that it was usual to get low millage on this car given the weight is higher. However, someone told me that me recently that they have been getting higher millage of 15-18 KMPL. This left me perplexed.

Car: Chevrolet Sail Hatchback/UVA 1.2 Petrol
ODO: 65k
City FE: 8-9 KMPL
Highway FE: 12-13 KMPL

What is your experience with FE on Chevrolet Sail UVA Petrol?

Also, recently I had issue with significant dirt in Throttle Controller with typical symptoms of car stopping when idling on AC or slowing down with clutch pressed. The throttle controller was cleaned and the issue was fixed. However, the issues seems to return after a month or so and resolve on its own.

This is making me think that there is some issue that is causing high dirt deposit on throttle controller and consequently poor fuel efficiency.

As usual, the garage folks are unable to find any issue leave alone fixing it.

I would love to hear your experience and suggestion towards this.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

2018 Hyundai elite i20 CRDI Diesel returning 25.2 KMPL on a 400 kilometre drive is impressive. 3 passengers on car, luggage was loaded to the brim and the automatic AC was set on 24 degrees.
