Theres something wrong with your Zen. Even our Indigo (petrol) has started returning 9.xx in the city with the A/C on full time, after we switched petrol pumps. Highway mileage remains the same at 14.5 (approximate) with 60-80kmph.

Swift : Highway FE

The few changes in condition are

- Nearly 25% AC, with more traffic
- Clutch change over is much better, as I got used to the car.
- The Tyre pressure was around 35PSI, after driving around 8 kms, so at cold it may be around 31-33psi.

Here is update on my Swift FE on Bangalore-Mysore Highway (first outside Bangalore)

1. Tankfull, upto auto cutoff at Shell Mysore Road (shell-1)
2. Visit to Mysore and back, total of 312Kms, with 260kms on bangalore-mysore highway and another 52kms in Mysore.
3. Tankfull upto auto cutoff at Shell on Mysore road, (shell-2), it took 14.9Ltrs, even with second forced cut-off.

So FE = 312/14.9 = ~21Kmpl

Notes:

1. Driving speed on highway was with an average of 90 Kmph with maximum speed of 120kms and ranging between 80-120kmph, covered in 1.30minutes either side, excluding one break of 30mins in each direction.

2. Both side travel was in hot sun, with 100% AC, three adults and my son, in his booster seat.

I have been driving my Petra for two months now. Initially, I had been holding back, never allowing the revs beyond 3000. Till then my FE used to be 9.5 kmpl driving in the city. Office commute is my main drive, so traffic is medium to heavy.
But still, now that the engine is feeling more and more free, having done almost 2800km, I have started pushing the needle a bit, with a foray or two into the 4000rpm region. While the feeling is no short of heady, the FE is down to 8.5. Which I guess, is OK for a 100bhp 1.6 litre engine.

krish82, have you been on any long trips where you can really floor the accelerator?

My 1999 carb Omni used to regularly give around 13 kpl in Chennai city until I took it on a trip to Bangalore. Got 20 kpl on that highway run and after that, it returned a regular 15 - 16 kpl in the city.

Mileage is also dependent on traffic conditions. So it may just be that your running is in heavy city traffic.

Palio 1.6GTX and Adventure 1.6

The worst I ever got in my 1.6GTX was 9.6kpl and the best 17.4kpl. The average is around 10.5 - 11kpl. All readings tank full to tank full, with 100% a/c. I drive in Pune and do not redline -- infact I havent pushed it beyond 5k ever.

The old carb Esteem used to give me 12-13kpl in city, mostly without a/c. Havent really I sold it recently.

Adventure 1.6 returned 15kpl on the long highway trip and in city 9.8kpl. Just got back from Bombay will check the expressway FE (with some crawling on Hill Road trying find a way to get into the society) today. But I expect it to be ~14 as I did some 150kmph runs on return.

It has been 1.5 year since my previous post. The FE recently dropped down to 10kmpl, while I noticed puncture in rear right tyre, fixing of which was simply getting procrastinated, was getting worser day by day. So, finally I got it fixed. The FE appears to have jumped back to 12+.

I am not complaining

Unbelievable!!!! Unbelievable!!!

Last week I traveled to my native place in my NHC. At ODO reading 11827 filled up to brim with IBP normal unleaded petrol. Traveled 320 (12147 ODO) kms without AC and filled upto brim which took 12.43 liters.

The average is 25.74 kms.

I also got 22.19 in my previous trip with 30%AC. I am not getting the same FE with the petrol filled in other bunks.

Hyderbad Team Bhpians: Please try IBP(coco) bunk which is at the beginning of Begumpet airport flyover. I am getting very good FE at this bunk.

Hi Ravi,

Agreed, I try to drive smoothly and safely and below 120-125kmph, even on a best roads, as it may not be possible hold on to that speed for atleast 2-3kms safely. However, when I drive I don't care about FE, but about safety and smoothness. But do reach my range of 80-120kmph as soon as possible to maintain an average speed of 85-90kmph on a good road.

regards,
-manju

Thanks for sharing. I fill regularly at another IBP (near Ohri's). I suspected I was getting more FE with IBP regular than Reliance and others.
