My palio 1.2 (2004) having done 76000km gives me 11-12 in city (aircon 50%) and 17-18 on highways when driven at a consistent speed. The worst ive got is 7-8 in city. But then reset them ECU and things became better.:)

Haan, it does. You didn't know that?

I think you meant can't?

@mclaren
i surely didn't know bout ECU helping mileage. Could you please explain it a bit if you can. Would be of great help to me..

and i surely had meant can't ;)

Ya it did help. I think the ECU injects fuel according to the driving style.

My car was @ the service center. You know how things go on there. They just rip the car and she screams like hell. (Dont know what pleasure they derive out of this??) So maybe due to this the car was consuming more fuel. After a few days of low FE, i decided to reset the ECU. Got up early in the morning and the first thing i did was disconnecting both the battery terminals. After a few minutes, reconnected them again and went for a small drive. Later drove it as usual without pushing the revs. FE went up:Cheering:

I need to do the same with my car. Its been returning low FE comparatively ever since the second service. Just dropped by a kmpl or so, but this is despite me trying hard to drive in a relaxed manner. Earlier, it used to return the current FE on hard driving.

My figures....

2004 Santro Xing (1.1) - 11.5 - 12 kmpl in city with AC on (dont have the
highway figures as I havent really taken it much
on the highway)
2006 Toyota Corolla H2 (1.8) - 11 kmpl in city, 13 - 13.5 kmpl on
highways (AC always on)

Something to think about Toyota's engine technology...a 1.8 engine giving the Santro's 1.1 engine a run for its money in terms of FE !! :confused:

my figures as of now: swift diesel vdi new < 250kms

without a/c ~ 15kmpl (before first service), fully city driving,
always gear change before 1.5k rpm to next higher gear.

dont accelerate much, but instead use the torque to go forward
at lower gears :)

@samirsarkar, it indeed is a good point that a powerful engine is giving as much as the santro. However, santro was never known for good mileage and as it ages the mileage too reduces ( from my experience).

@Geek, i get 13kmpl constantly with 50% a/c in city driving with gear changes between 2.5K-3K rpm in my viva crdi. I think despite your caution your getting less FE. i think it will improve after the first service.

Here are my figures;

City ZX CVT City 9.3 kmpl / Highway 14.2 kmpl - 5600 km
Innova G4 D City 9.2 kmpl / Highway 12.6 kmpl - 2800 km

100% AC always for both the cars

Is this perception or actual measured results?

It's actual measurement based on tank-full to tank-full. I got the 19 kmpl on my trip from Bangalore to Jog Falls.

I agree about Santro giving 19kmpl on Bangalore to Jog its one highway where less traffic and AC not needed because we pass by hill side areas.

I saw FE of 23 kmpl from my omni in this highway if driven between 60 to 70 speed. My and my uncle's 2004 Santros returned 22kmpl without AC and my another relative's Santro returned 19kmpl with AC on.

My Innova returned 11kmpl in this highway with AC on with speeds 100kmph.

Regards,

Ravi.

My figures for the last 6 months

On Petrol : 5.01 Kmpl
On Lpg : 4.58 Kmpl

Yeah, thats right, its not a typo. I have been too careless & too busy to get the car checked.

Hmmm, John. I guess its time you moved to the Logan-D :) , given the FE figures you are getting with the Esteem (not that its a fault with Esteems, per se).
