Nope! We measure our consumption in miles per gallon (unless you drive one of those cars that does gallons to the mile!).

But it is one of those things... usage of words is different; Brit English, American English, Indian English...

Please don't think that I'm one of those Brits that thinks the whole world should speak British English! I'm not. Just this was a curious one for me.

I might mention it on Sam's English Language thread.

Nice one.

As you know, the average car-owning Indian's first priority is minimizing running costs. Manufacturers also often detune their engines to cater to this need.
I guess we use the word "efficiency" in the hope that its something that can eternally be improved. I guess that comes back to your point on optimism.

Alternatively, the phrase "fuel efficiency" (and FE) came in from manufacturers marketing material - to convey a positive picture: "efficiency" conjures up images of well-tuned, smoothly-running engines; "consumption" sounds like they're discussing tuberculosis.

cheers
John, didnt know your Esteem was LPGified.
These figures look quiter decent, considering normal traffic conditions, and the age of the car.

It was 2 years back. Actually my LPG FE can still go up if i change gears more often instead of sitting in 1st & 2nd all the time.

Absar, VC12 has an Ikon Flair, which is the 1.3L ROCAM engine.
My car also returns FE figures on similar lines.
