Man, do you really get those figures from your Corolla?
What fuel does it run on?
Or do you drive only when there's a curfew declared? just kidding :-)

Matiz Mileage

Matiz

City - 13.5 to 15

Highway - 16 to 18

The mileage increased substantially, once I changed Engine Oil to the specified oil. Previously I was getting only maximum 12 in cities and 14 in highways.

This time I used Shell (yellow colored) oil as specified in Matiz Manual.
Usually the local workshop-walas put the cheapest oil available, without checking any specifications. This really reduces the mileage for Matiz.

i10.

I got 18.9 km/l in mixed drive, i.e. town and rural roads around Erode ( a semi town). Driven below 60 km speed, since the car is new, with mostly A/c on. (From 34 km to 299 km in odo meter- total 265 km for 14 liters petrol).

But in highway, I got 15.9 km/l with mostly A/c on, driven at 80 km speed constantly. I drove 477 km for 30 liters petrol in national highway from Erode to Chennai.

Interestingly, the manual of i10 reads that highway driving will give only less mileage than urban motoring, because we usually drive in high speed.

My above experience will vouch for it.

Does not make a difference if the car is driven with or withour AC
I always use IOC Xtra Mile Diesel
Beautiful FE figures, the margin between city and highway is very less. Wonderful!

Wow! 18.9 km/L from an i10,and that too in town and rural roads. Phew! This is the first time I've heard of a car giving more FE in the city than on the highway.

Great going folks!!

All of these cars (Swift, Corolla & i10) must be the one of the few GOOD cars delivered from the showroom without them doing their way of run-in.

okies....

i've got a really out and out wierd reading on my december 2005 indica tcic with 27500 kms on on the meter.

I did an oil change, changed diesel filter, oil filter, cleaned the air filter etc. Put in Penzoil 15W40. (I change every 5000 kms as opposed to the 7500 recommended by Tata service guys.)

ran the fuel tank bone dry and then filled in 15 litres and tripped the reading.
Yesterday I refuelled again after getting it almost bone dry.

My reading was at 357.8 kms. thats a mileage of 23.85 entirely within city. Of course on account of the cold wave, i have been using the AC very sparingly.

Will check again for this fill up now. But I have never gotten such readings with city driving.

This was the first time I filled in 15 litres since the time I bought the car. I have always done a tank full without exception. What do you guys think is the reason for this sudden jump in mileage ??

You really know how to drive sensibly. I think it might be useful to give the FE of my Corolla AT after 10 mths, and 16,500 kms based on Delhi weather conditions:
Disclaimer: I drive 70 kms every day to and fro to Gurgaon and travel timings vary wildly and affects FE.

Total till Jan 20, 2008: 10.6 kmpl.
Mar-Apr 2007 (new car, very little AC used): 2674 kms ,10.1
May-June 2007 (hot, but AC used at 27C, traffic was decent): 2916 kms, 10.8
July-Sep 07 (monsoon jams, bad traffic): 4649, 10.2
Oct-Nov 07 (better weather, bad traffic): 3528, 11
Dec-Jan 08 (cold, bad traffic, but light traffic in last week of Dec because of people taking holidays): 2461, 11.2

Gurgaon expressway has opened, but do not believe politicians and papers who say that it is a zip now. The mess has now shifted to Dhaula Kuan, Vasant Vihar, and toll gate, and it should get worse.

These figures are achievable, as I also got to hear about these when I was thinking of buying a Corolla in early 2007. One of my close friend has a manual Corolla who drives from East Delhi to High Court (India Gate) at 915 AM in reasonably heavy traffic, but still gets 11.5-12 kmpl. The highway figures seem high.

On AT Corolla, in Delhi-Gurgaon drive, my worst is 9 and best is 12.8. Have not taken it out of Delhi so far.

I'm not sure if we should count these city to suburb drives using special/ring roads for city FE,
In city drive, I can rarely put my Cedia in 4th gear, forget overdrive.
and get FE of 10+ with AC on.

I'm not saying getting FE of 11/12 in city is impossible for a 1.8/2 lit petrol engine, it depends on driving style and driving conditions.
