my actual fuel efficiency is 10kms to 1 bottle of Kingfisher ...

Seriously, calculated on my not even a Month old Logan dCi... took her in heavy traffic to Borivli & Back, got 11.6kms/Litre (calculated with fuel tank method) with 100% a/c on... IMPRESSED coz its still not run-in...

Accent Viva 1.6L DOHC 2004
Consistent average 8-8.5kmpl with 100% a/c on in traffic conditions
Highway to Nasik, with spirited driving & 100% a/c on i have got 12.5kmpl...

Indigo LS 2004 (On Sale)
Consistent 10.5kmpl with regular diesel in city with a/c on
have achieved 17kmpl with 100% a/c on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway

FE on my S10

Here is the updated FE for My S10 during a mixture of highway + City Driving:

Had gone from Bangalore to Yelagiri & back, covering a distance of nearly 300 KMS with approximately 40 KM of hill/ghat driving. Did not have the A/C on as the weather was pleasant. Was pushing the S10 to it's limits and was in the 120 - 160 KM/hr speed band most of the time.

My fuel gauge showed 1/2 full while refueling some 60 Kms from Bangalore. Got the tank full by putting in 22 lts of fuel. On way back, had reached Bangalore when the needle again came back to 1/2 full.

So am assuming that I covered 300 Kms in 22 Lts of petrol. That would mean a FE of ~13.5 KM/L on highway. I am sure that highway FE will improve if driven moderately(in 80-100 KM/Hr band).

At the same time, am not complaining with the 13+ FE figures -- after all an S10 is meant to be enjoyed.

It is the city FE figures that are worry some -- but still acceptable (considering that I used to drive a Santro before). I get max 8-8.5 KM/L in peak hour Bangalore traffic with 80% of the time A/C being on.

Though I have no complaints as yet on the FE front, I fear to think on what will happen when Petrol prices shoot up to Rs 75/Ltr in Bangalore. Will I be not be complaining about the FE then? I don;t know.

Meanwhile; let me enjoy my S10

The way you were driving your car during Yelagiri drive, 13+ kms is a pretty good mileage. BTW, I didnt know you had AC off and windows down. I would have been very scared to push beyond 120, if my windows were rolled down.

yup, its a used Accent, 2005 model.
Of courese, its pickup is pathetic when compared to my earlier car, but that was expected. Most cars would struggle to match Palio 1.6

there is one thing that i dont understand..
my palio 1.2 gives me close to 12-13kmpl in city conditions.
My palio 1.6 used to give me 11kmpl under the same conditions.
Corolla 1.8 gives me 12-13kmpl under the same conditions.

how can it be higher BHP, higher Engine CC and still better FE ?
Can someone pls explain this phenomenon.

No buddy, didn't have the windows rolled down -- that would be scary on those speeds.

I had the fan on and had set the air inflow to take air from outside rather than just circulating the air inside. Was opening a small portion of the windows now and then..

If I recall, you were pushing your cedia to the limits too :-) and I have been always a fan of the cedia. A very capable car. What's the FE that you got?

I never do much highway driving so all figues are Mumbai city driving:

1. Honda City 1.5 4AT : 9 KMPL
2. Chevrolet Optra 1.6 : 8 KMPL
3. Maruti Zen : 13 KMPL

The above are with the air conditioner on.
