My Amby Avigo Petrol give me 7 Kmpl on average, all city with 100% AC. I think I have one of the most uneconomical rides in the forum.

Have not tried Highways, and by the way Kolkata is one of the most congested cities to drive in.

in my recent return trip from my home town my Petra 1.6 returned close to 16 KMPL without A/C. As the A/C belt was broke I had to driver back without A/C and windows down with speeds not more than 80 KMPH. First time without A/C and windows down, high FE too.

My Ikon used to give just 10kmpl in city with A/C - of course my office is just 6 km away but with so many signals and thick of city traffic. And generally most of my rides are short.

On long highway rides it gives an amazing 17-18kmpl; I am still not very clear on why such a huge difference.

Civic 1.8V AT
All City driving
Avg commute distance (Home to Office) - 2Kms one way
AC - 100%
KMs done - 3200 in 10 months
Mileage - 6.8 KMPL

May be short commute distance is to blame ?

Short city commutes lead to lower efficiency?

I have the same doubt. My Fiesta (1.4 ZXI) stats currently:

Office Daily Commute: 9 kms round trip
AC: 100%
Mileage: 10.5 kmpl

I believe the short distance is to be blamed. In winter months, when the HVAC utilization was practically zero, the Fiesta returned an efficency of about 12.5-13 kmpl.

When I had booked the car, the Ford salesman had confidently claimed 15kmpl in city driving! I laughed him off Somehow, I want his words to come true now

Just curious, have other members seen such a drop in efficiency owing to AC?

Interestingly!

The DTE (approx 'Distance to Empty') figures on the Fiesta have undergone a change like this:

Winter Months
Full Tank: ~45L
Predicted DTE: 540
Predicted Efficiency: 12 kmpl
On a full-tank to full-tank calculation, I was getting 12.5 - 13 kmpl.

Summer Months
Full Tank: ~45L
Predicted DTE: 425
Predicted Efficiency: 9.5 kmpl
On a full-tank to full-tank calculation, I am getting 10.5 kmpl.

Nice Artificial Intelligence there Keep the customer happy

For the first time since Jun 2007, my Swift returned an FE of 16 in the city! I drove very light-footed this week. Tried to keep the rev counter under 2K RPM most of the time. The MJD engine simply rocks!

Which Ikon is this, 1.6 or 1.3 litre?

My baleno (Euro-III model) has been giving me 10+Kmpl on an average for city driving, average daily distance traveled is 10Km total (short! no wonder my odo reads just about 13K in 2years 7months). I had a long trip only once, when it returned 15Kmpl (average speed 90Kmph, 120Kmph at times). A/C usage was roughly 50%, and 75% respectively. BTW, I have little wider 185mm tires.

Recently I have done two things that *may* improve mileage- 1. started using system-G, and 2. added a temp. control for A/C (but then AC button is ON most of the time now!). Let us see how it goes.

I have a Old Vtec, and I am really puzzled by its diet.

Once I took it towards Mulshi-Tamini from Pune. Totally covering 160 km.
Fuel burnt?
Only 9 Litres.

17km/l
Couldn't really believe it.

Well, then from 9 L to 0 L - i could manage only 70km more (in hardcore peak rush hour city driving).
8km/l

I was amost speechless at this monster.
