Even the best petrol mileage figures I have heard were around 20 Kmpl, but this is well above! What was the average speed? Was it like an ideal "FE" driving, very sedate with no frequent acceleration or braking?

Alto can give 25kmpl but with AC on is amazing FE. Couple of weeks back my driver who drove Alto (belongs to other person who is shifting the place) from Vellore to Varanasi told me he drove day and night with speeds like 40-60kmph without AC and FE calculated is around 24kmpl. Roads are not so good in many places. He is only one person in the car with not much luggage.

I remember my Omni used to return 22kmpl when driven with decent speeds like 60kmph and also Santro XING. Alto would give 24kmpl easily If one maintain decent speed with good driving habbit.

Regards,

Ravi.

It was casual drive. 2 Guys + Subwoofer + 3 bags. Speeds not below 50-60 and trying to maintain at 80. Never went above 90. Just touched 140 for no more than a min to check the performance. AC was on 70% of the time

I just did another trip. Though this time. 4 people + luggage from Chandigarh > Delhi > Gurgaon > Delhi > Chandigarh.

Will update as soon as fuel is finished.

Total fuel used this time is 1150 + 850 = Rs 2000. Rs 40.60 Per Ltr. 50 Ltrs. Already did 650+ Km. Around 3/4 Tank left. Speed below 90. AC on 100% this time.

You must be very lucky, my optra ( which I owned previously gave only 8to 8.5 in the city and 11 on the highway.Any mods had been done. Very unusual for an Optra to give so much. Honda and Toyota with their variable Valve opening technology do not give so much. I am sure if you tell GM they might even offer to buy it back as it a very special engine.

It is a 1.6L engine. Honda and Toyota both sport 1.8L engines with nearly 30 more BHP.

Zen Estillo & Chevrolet Spark

Zen Estillo 15.0 kms / litre . 100% AC on + sole passenger + use Eastern Express Highway (50% highway + 50% city)

Chevrolet Spark 12.0 kms / litre . Minor changes to above travel plan. Being a 990 cc engine, I thought it would give a higher FE than the Zen which is 1075cc. However it is extremely peppy and has a lot of zing. Likes to be revved.

guy I dont know but somehow 6.5 yr old santro gives only about 10.5-11 kmpl in the city with normal driving. and its about 12 kmpl with Speed fuel. and I get this kind of average since new! I use the tank to tank way of measuring. is it too low or something?

and lately I am also somehow not able to measure my average as the auto-stop at the fuel station happens even though there is about 20% space left in the fuel tank. so what can I do and how to measure correct average and why does this thing happen almost everytime lately when I ask the guy at the petrol pump to fill it till it stops automatically and it stops way before tank full almost everytime lately.

NHC 2008 idsi

~17 KMPL ( 100% city , 30% AC)

Running is around 10k mark.

One strange observation is , the mileage is slowly but steadily increasing

from 15KMPL(~5k on Oddo) to now 17KMPL.(~10k on Oddo) and nothing is changed in between.

Driver , road , road conditions , tank full method all are same .

Anybody have similar experience ?

This is normal for Honda - optimal engine operation is usually achieved only after 10-15k km if run in well. Then this is supposed to last till at least 200,000 km, with normal routine service / oil changes.

Hubli-Bangalore - 13.8 kmpl for 423 kms 100%AC (always more than 120kmph, touched max of 165kmph) - 6.5hrs (drive-time)

Just goes to show that you took the same time to drive back irrespective of the speed that you drove at!
