Fiat Palio MJD

My Fiat Palio MJD gives me 20-21 KMPL in 100% city driving conditions without AC. The lowest I have got in the city is 17KMPL (this was with AC on most of the time) and the highest was 22KMPL.

That's fantastic mileage for a city run.

The maximum I've been able to squeeze out from my Alto in the city with 10% use of the a/c has been 19.57 kmpl. Am planning on filling up with Shell normal unleaded petrol at my next tank-up and then see if I can better the figure.

22 KMPL is really amazing, beats even the most fuel efficient cars.

But quiet a difference of fuel avg. between great_guns & lejhoom.

Probably the AC & the driving style.

Maybe +1 w/o A/C
The FE we got for the one month old, clocked 600 km, Kappa Magna is a poor 9.00 km/l by tank full to tank full method. 100% AC (mild) and within city, mixed short(4 km) and long (36 km) stretches.

I am also getting the 14.5 in bangalore city(100% AC). One thing that I take care is I fill from the same pump while I take the measurement. Different pumps have different cutoff behaviors. If the petrol is pumped slowly the cutoff will be earlier. To get an accurate reading you have to fill from the same pump.
I get 20 on the highway.

BTW you also on Palio MJD ?

14.5 in Bangalore seems a good FE considering the bumper to bumper traffic around.

I get a 12 KMPL, first low fuel warning cycle, no AC, part highway / part city with speed brakers every where on My Scorpio VLX.

Thanks for the feedback. I know it is low. My driving style is extremely sedate with only one person driving (me) most of the time with AC on. Most other Alto ( and non alto) owners are surprised by the FE of 11-12 kmpl in city with AC on. Do you have any other tips?

I daily commute is very short - 3 kms at a stretch.

Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with your car and the answer to your low FE is in your post. A short drive such as 3 kms one way is bound to give you bad FE.

Try going on a longer drive and I am certain that your FE will improve substantially. Also, do take her out on the highway and you will see an even better improvement in the FE.

Cheers,
gpa

Well, I drive in very busy traffic conditions. It's usually second and third gear, bumper to bumper. It's impossible to drive without AC owing to pollution in the city.
When I went for a long trip, I got 22 kmpl, throughout 2500 km or so, with AC 100%.

My Alto LXI's average FE is 20.72 kmpl

My Alto LXI has been giving me a general fuel economy of 20.72 kmpl. Let me first give you a brief on my style of driving:

1. I almost never use the AC. In fact, the AC is used only when it rains and on a summer afternoon. Somehow, I don't like driving with the AC on and I prefer the natural wind entering the cabin.
2. I drive all over Goa, both in rural and urban areas.
3. I fill fuel at various petrol pumps, mostly those which accept a credit card, so preference to any one petrol pump.
3. My maximum speed is 70 kmph.
4. I try to get on the 5th gear whenever possible.
5. Most of the times, my wife, our one-and-half year old daughter and I travel in the car. Dickey/hatch is always partially filled with baby's bag and some marketing bags. Occasionally, fourth person (mum-in-law) travels with us.
6. I use the original tyres supplied on the Alto and there have been absolutely no modifications on the car.

I don't check separate fuel economy readings for city and highway driving, and whatever fuel economy I get is a result of both of them put together. The drive could range from the busy route in and around Panjim city (mostly 2nd-3rd gear) to the relative easy traffic on a Panjim-Margao road in the morning. The tank-to-tank readings are as follows:

1. 548.4 kms -- 28.28 ltrs -- 19.26 kmpl
2. 363.2 kms -- 18.14 ltrs -- 20.02 kmpl
3. 569.7 kms -- 26.41 ltrs -- 21.57 kmpl
4. 627.0 kms -- 29.76 ltrs -- 21.07 kmpl
5. 632.1 kms -- 28.78 ltrs -- 21.96 kmpl
6. 599.1 kms -- 29.38 ltrs -- 20.39 kmpl
7. 455.6 kms -- 22.44 ltrs -- 20.30 kmpl

TOTAL: 3795.1 kms -- 183.19 ltrs -- 20.72 kmpl

These readings were done in random over a period of one year (after the first service). Suffice to say, I have been quite pleased with the fuel economy of my Alto. Regards.

That's outstanding FE misquitas! I am an econo-miser as well with my Alto I average about 18.5 to 19.5 kmpl in Bangalore's city traffic. Just like you I have very bare minimum usage of the a/c, mostly using it for about 30 mins each week to lubricate the entire system.

Congrats on achieveing such wonderful FE figures. Do you see any A-Star owners going green with envy when you make mention of your Alto's FE?

Cheers,
gpa

Thanks for the kind words. To be honest, I haven't seen that many A-Stars on the roads here in Goa. Moreover, none of my friends, relatives or colleagues own an A-Star, so I can't really compare notes on FE with them.

Having said that, your FE of 18.5-19.5 kmpl is also very impressive, given the type of traffic in Bangalore. Traffic is relatively much less here in Goa.
Regards

What is the FE of Ritz petrol?

A lot of people on this forum and elsewhere have claimed that the petrol edition of the Ritz is outselling its diesel counterpart by a huge margin. Many attribute this to the relatively cheaper price for the petrol version and the fuel efficient K series petrol engine on the Ritz.

But has anyone (especially on this forum) actually performed a tank-to-tank FE analysis on the Maruti Ritz petrol engine? I would be very interested to know these readings. Thanks, Melvyn
