ANHC SMT City Driving 100% AC - 12.5 KMPL (Driven with at most care)
Swift VDi City Driving 95% AC -14 KMPL (Low may be because driven for very short distances like couple of kms and then rested for rest of the day, kind of abused, not heated in morning, driven by multiple people and at times abused by me for the 2000RPM fun of DDIS ;-) )

Bangalore - Mayilathudurai - Bangalore - 854Km - 23.4 (including one hour of jam on the way back due to flooded road from Hosur to Bomanahalli)
Date 13-Sep-2009

I had managed 27.3 Kmpl for first 200 odd Kms, including drive from home (Bangalore Jayanagr) via Hosur till Tindivanam. Picture attached.

So, I topped up full tank day before yesterday. I would have driven about 2 to 3 litres inside city. I had to go to Mayilathudurai (Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu). I chose via Pondy hoping I may not get lost. Till Tindivanam (200 Km) I got 27.3 Kmpl, before it dropped as I got lost in some crowded market inside there and from there on keep stopping and keep asking for way, via Pondy, Chidambaram, Pondy, and asking for way to Marriage hall. Fuel has hardly moved even after 430Km. Spent two hours there and drove back. Had heavy downpour from Tindivanam till home. Whoever had driven yesterday night will know. It was terrific lightings and thunders and pours and me alone in the car.

Sorry for the glare because of the cellphone camera LED flash. The total home to home average (not clearly seen) is 23.4 Kmpl (includes marriage hall visit inside Mayilathudurai town).

Ya I agree it is less, may be due to short trips 5 - 6 kms, usually I have to drive B to B traffic, mostly 2nd or 3rd gear, but I'm not worried as my 90% travel is on highway where I do get 17 - 18 kmpl with 100% AC on.

Just completed the 20,000 kms service on my Alto and am on a mission to see what is the best FE I can squeeze out of her in city drives without the aicon running.

As of today I have clocked 200 kms and the guage still shows a quarter to go to the half tank mark, which should mean that I am looking at covering about ~630 kms on a tankfull.

Will update the FE stats when I fill her up next week.

City : 13 kmpl (60% AC) I drive from Mulund to BKC via Eastern Express Highway.
Highways: : 18-19 (80%AC) kmpl - I had calculated the same while I had to driven to Aurangabad, Pune and Shirdi.

normal fuel used

i got to do 612 kms to the tankful. the full tank being 35 ltrs, my FE was close to 17.5 kmpl. my alto has done 19k kms.

That's a great FE in itself, but since I have changed a lot of components (spark plugs, engine oil, air & fuel filters) I'm just trying to see what effect it has had on overall FE.

Edit: trying to see what is the best FE without the aircon in the city!

My Tata Safari 2.2 Vx 4x4 gives me 14.5 kmpl in city and nearly 16 kmpl on highway. I am very happy. Desiel khatam nahi hota.

My Wagon R has done 33000 km, it gives me FE of 10 in the city and 16 on the highway.
My Linea 1.4 petrol done 3200 km gives me 12 in the city and 20 on highway.
Don't laugh if you find it difficult to digest

My Alto LXI gives me about 20 kmpl without AC. I don't bother (nor can I be accurate either) segregating stats in city or highway driving conditions. For me, it is the overall economy attained under all conditions during a given period. During my recent Goa-Pondicherry-Goa trip, my fuel economy was as follows: Total distance (2103 kms), Total fuel used (99.37 litres) and Total fuel economy (21.16 kmpl). The conditions ranged from smooth and open roads between Belgaum and Bankapur) to bumper-bumper traffic in Bangalore and Pondicherry. I rarely use the AC while driving and hence, much of my drive (and FE) is without the AC.

Suffice to say, even here in Goa, my Alto has given me an average of over 20 kmpl.
