Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My 3week old Linea MJD emotion gives the following:

20% City + 80% Highway: 21kmpl with full Ac & 5people on board
90% City + 10% Highway : 17kmpl (With Ac & one person on board)

The car is just 1500km old, so expecting a 10-20% jump in the mileage figures after 5000km run in.

I've generally observed that OHC, NHC and ANHC give anywhere from 10 - 12 km/l in the city and 15 - 17 km/l on the highway with 100% AC.

Not sure if I'm missing something, but these values are almost the same as those reported for Linea TJet and Vento (Petrol), though they have varying ARAI figures.

If these are true, then the mileage advantage for [O,N,AH]HC disappears.

Hope the respective owners can comment and clarify.

Not sure if you thought my mileage was too high or too low for a Honda City 1.5. I think i get slightly higher mileage than other HCs because my commute is more suburbs than city center type (I'm in Bangalore). Think 16 km done on an average in 35-40 minutes, not bad right?
Second, I like to believe that I have a mileage friendly style of driving:
  • Pure hatred for brakes
  • 2-3 car distance from the guy ahead so I'm not constantly switching from throttle to brakes
  • Maintain rev band between 1800-3000 rpm for nice power and not making the engine struggle for revs (by being too low in the rev range)
  • Aggressive overtaking of trucks/tractors even if it means visit to the red-line in 2nd gear (being too patient there takes a toll on your time/fuel)
  • No riding of the clutch, amble in first gear with b 2 b traffic
  • Switch off if signal wait is more than 80-90 secs
