Is it possible to redline (or drive spiritedly) in city traffic, and that too in such a manner that efficiency drops to such drastic levels?
Highway it is possible, but rest i cant fathom.
by the way some impressive mileage figures these.

Yes, very much possible.
Just to clarify, I stay in the outskirts of the city and the traffic is not bumper-to-bumper. It is moderate with some stretches where you can floor the accelerator and hit speeds of 100-120+ (which I do pretty regularly).
In fact even today while coming to office, I hit the rev limiter when acceleration in 2nd gear (around 90 kmph)

May be I should have clarified earlier.

My mileage has varied from 10-20 kmpl based on the traffic conditions and the driving style.

And yes, I am very happy with the mileage.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

VW Jetta 2.0 CRDi Comfortline
Consistently getting 20+ and 2 days back it reached 24.2 kmpl

Sorry about the shaky picture, as I took it using my mobile phone after slowing down to the side of a road.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Wagon-R 2010 (K-Series)
Kms : 6560. 2nd Service Done
Fuel Eff (Tank-full method) : Between 13-14, City, no-AC, Bangalore (this is after service, and when I started tracking more accurately by making sure I never top-up).

Isn't that somewhat less ?

Some more data points :
* Started driving with this car only
* Not a spirited driver - I try upshifting early
* Always get fuel at an IOC COCO (BTM Layout), which I believe is "honest" (In fact saw a police car being fueled up there yesterday, which increased confidence in them )
* Have tyre pressure checked once a month at the same outlet.

Any suggestions on what I should get checked, and what I might be doing wrong in my driving style ?

At times once a month isn't enough. But checking how much the pressure was should tell you if you need to get it checked sooner. (A drop of upto 2psi is what I would be comfortable with).

Upshifting too early, when the car can barely pick up too isn't a good idea. Just in case you are overdoing the upshifting bit, it could hurt FE.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Tata Manza Aura+ Quadrajet (diesel) - Average over the last 6700 Kms.

In Bangalore City Driving with 50% AC and 30% bumper to bumper traffic - Getting 16 Kmpl for the past 3 months.
On Highways (Bang - Chennai, Bang - Waynad, Bang- Goa) - 50% AC and spirited driving with average speed of 110-120 - Got 20 Kmpl during those 3 long trips.

Avesome bang for the buck !!!!

Will keep track of the pressulre - Thanks !
A month is equivalent to about 1000 km .. and about a km a day is on /very/ bumpy / nonexistent roads.

Reg upshift : The Maruti service sheet had the following printed on the back
1-2 : 10kmph
2-3 : 20kmph
3-4 : 30kmph
4-5 : 40kmph

I try sticking to this, though there is a delay in 2-3 and 3-4. Very rarely use 5th even while going at 40-50+, as I know there will be frequent/imminent downshift required.

I had to rub my eyes twice and see again to believe this.
Sooper mileage I must say for a heavy petrol sedan.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Ritz Vdi:

Average Mileage till date (with AC): 14.4

I have altered an excel sheet that I had borrowed from one of the Ritz owner members on his ownership thread.

I keep track of all the pumps I fill from, and the volume and rate at time of filling to gauge the exact mileage per fill. This gives me a good idea on which pumps have spurious fuel and which supply genuine diesel

Don't have significant experience with a WagonR, but except for 1-2, this seems rather early; more so because one may need to downshift in real-life situations if one followed this. Trying something like this just might help:
1-2 : 10
2-3 : 30
3-4 : 45
4-5 : 55-60
Now, I am suggesting this based on other hatches (including from the Maruti stable) that I have driven. You may change a bit based on what you 'feel' from the car. It just might help.

Also bear in mind that you may be suggested to overinflate the tyres for better FE. That can be rather risky as overinflated tyres tend to skid very easily.
