Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

TATA Manza QJD

Driving conditions
Home to Office commute and back daily : 40kms
Daily total Travel time : 2 hrs to 2.5 hrs
100% AC
Driving style : DAYP (Drive As You Please). With spurts of sudden acceleration, spurts of driving for 15 to 20 mins in 1st gear and spurts of sane and sensible driving.
Engine and AC always ON at traffic lights

Car Condition
1 year old
13K on odo

Average fuel consumption on the last 5 tank fills : 12.8kmpl
Am I happy with this? Absolutely.

On the occasional airport run my average shoots up substantially (by about 1kmpl to 1.5kmpl). The current fuel consumption is more a reflection on my driving style rather than the car because I know that on the highway runs even I am capable of getting 18kmpl to 19kmpl.

WOOOOOOOW

these are terrific numbers - though I'm not sure the high tyre pressure is safe.

Rx seems to be getting diesel FE from the petrol.

on my Figo TDCi diesel:

Tyre pressure - 32 to 28 (filled every three to five weeks)
Odo reading 4600
Fuel filled roughly every 500km, tankful same dispenser
Last four (to the best of my memory, most recent to older):

17.5
16
14.5
14

The older reading are with 100% AC on a newer engine. On the very fresh engine I got 13 also - but that was with 100% AC with the airflow knob in mid range (I didn't know that wastes fuel) and also with almost no exprience of driving a car.

I generally maintain 1-2psi than recommended. the tire placard on the car says Front should be 36psi and rear at 33psi. Since they are cold tyre pressure and the nearest air filling station is 6 kms the tyre would be slightly more than warm so maintain 1-2 psi more so when the tyres have cooled its at 37 in front and 34 at rear.

In-case its not safe then I shall revert to the manufacturers saying.

Hi,

I have Ritz Vxi model which comes with 165/80/14 tyres. I got them replaced with 185/70/14. Thus I believe 30 psi is appropriate.

Regards

OK I understand now.

For Figo the manual recommends 30psi for all four tyres. I ask the guy to fill 32 always (usually it is a little bit of drive away - so that is warm and also I am not that frequent - by the time I go again pressure usually drops to 28).

1-2psi more shouldn't be unsafe of course.

You may be kidding but hope that computer is not got kaput, great mileage for a Beamer:

Mine POLO 1.2 TDI FE details :
Tyre pressure : usually 30 psi
Total odo reading so far : 6200 kms

Last calculated FE : 18.xx
(Most part of running in this calculation was highways with spirited overtakings)

Method of calculation : Tank full to tank full, 90% filled at my favourite BP COCO fuel station in my town, Almost every fill was Hi-Speed Diesel, except current fill-up which was filled at highway pump.

with these pressures isn't the ride bumpy? I understand you fill at some distance away but still the question.
