Mine POLO 1.2 TDI FE details :
Tyre pressure : usually 30 psi
Total odo reading so far : 6200 kms

Last calculated FE : 18.xx
(Most part of running in this calculation was highways with spirited overtakings)

Method of calculation : Tank full to tank full, 90% filled at my favourite BP COCO fuel station in my town, Almost every fill was Hi-Speed Diesel, except current fill-up which was filled at highway pump.
the above mentioned figures are for the highway. fortunately had very less traffic. in the city, it usually returns me figures of around 12 kmpl.

No. I don't find the ride to be bumpy.

I have a doubt. Even after filling 1-2psi more than recommended when I look at the tires there is a slight bulge on the sidewall as if it under-filled.

What could the reason be for that? Is it the construction way and made to look like that in normal conditions?

Sorry, I forgot to mention complete details of FE. When I just bought it, the FE was 14 in mostly city driving with all time AC. Then it gradually increased and still increasing, last city FE was 16+. I found that atleast mine POLO 1.2 TDI doesn't bother much about city or highway traffic, there is barely 1-2 kms difference in FE in both conditions with almost all time AC (Currently AC usage decreased due to winters).

Actually whenever I hit highways, I don't know what happens to my earlier sedate driving habits of cruising between 70-90, I start trying to drive it spiritedly and drive it at non-constant 120-130 even try to go for more but due to traffic, panic to co-passengers and other hazards, I can not manage to go beyond 130-135. Most highways runs so far of mine POLO can be called as spirited, so the mileage is great. I am trying to control my-self to not to drive like that and slight improvements are noticed as I started from 140+ now its 120-130, hope this speed will decrease more by the time.

BTW are you talking about TDI or Petrol?

Radial tyres have very pliant sidewall (tyre cords are only in the radial direction, with no cross direction stiffeners), so there will always be a visible bulge at normal tyre pressure. This is unlike the cross ply tyres, where the sidewall are rigid, and the bulge shows only at very low pressures.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My petrol Laura is giving me around 10 in the city (Bangalore), AC on always, and on the one long trip that I have done to Goa, I got 14 odd overall. But recently on a trip back from the airport, I got a really pleasant surprise. I had just returned from a hectic day trip and decided to take it easy on the drive and chose the Devanahalli route instead of the normal outer ring road route on my way to Sarjapur Road. Midway into the journey, I actually saw 5.3 l/100 km on the trip mileage meter (not instantaneous mileage meter) which translates into almost 19 kmpl. Goes to show that if you baby the throttle and find empty stretches of roads, even this petrol beast is capable of returning fantastic fuel efficiency! Go Skoda!

on my Figo TDCi diesel:

Tyre pressure - 32 to 28 (filled every three to five weeks)
Odo reading 4600
Fuel filled roughly every 500km, tankful same dispenser
Last four (to the best of my memory, most recent to older):

17.5
16
14.5
14

The older reading are with 100% AC on a newer engine. On the very fresh engine I got 13 also - but that was with 100% AC with the airflow knob in mid range (I didn't know that wastes fuel) and also with almost no exprience of driving a car.
Update: got fuel into the car today. 518km for 27ltr=19kmpl is the new FE.

Although I have been regularly getting an FE around 14kmpl, this time around I might see a drastic drop in FE due to some issues with the car. Based on present reading the FE I would get would be around 12kmpl. I am planning to get the car checked this weekend.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

in my 7 year old Alto, the efficiency had dipped all the way to 10kmpl because of my driving style and the Ghandhinagar traffic jam that I get everyday.

During the last month, I consciously changed my driving style (started driving with light foot) and got 12.3kmpl even with the same traffic situation. This month, I am driving without AC. In last 7 years, I have never driven one complete tank without AC. The light foot driving continues. Hoping to clock 14+ kmpl in this cycle.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My Polo petrol give betwen 13 to 14 in city traffic. AC used 50%. I used tank full method from same petrol pump and same bunker. I am trying to change my driving style a bit by not going over 80 or rpm 2000 to see if I can improve upon this. Last month I did a Lonavala trip. I calculated FE on the Mumbai Pune express way...and it was 19.

Drove one complete tankful without AC. I was expecting at least 2 kmpl jump from the 12.3 kmpl clocked on the last tankful. Somehow only managed to get 13.3 kmpl. Driving without AC for 15 days was an interesting experience. I doubt I would do it again.
