Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: Manza Elan 2012
Total Mileage of car: 3719
FE calculation method: Tank full to tank full (DIS dosen't give accurate figures)
During city drives I get 12-13(as per DIS) and on highways 22(as per DIS). This time I used tankfull to tank full method which is more precise.

Bangalore to Goa (Shimoga-Honnavar route) within Goa and back to Bangalore (Honnavar-Shimoga route)
Total distance covered: 1542.1 kms
Total diesel consumed: 81.09 litres
FE achieved (overall): 19.01 kmpl
AC usage: about 90%

Calculation
Diesel filled @ Rs. 40.91 per lt: Rs. 1250 or 30.55 lts

Distance covered till tank empty: 750 kms

FE: 24.54 kmpl
What speeds were you driving at? I just got back from a relatively short 300km highways trip and got a mileage of 17 on the mid. This is with 4 on board and avg speed at 110

I have to add, these 261Km consist plenty of 4km trips(office). One thing I found is, these short trips take a heavy toll on the mileage. By the time engine warms up properly, the trip is over.
Same route. 80% A/C.

252 KM. 21 liters.

Average - 12kmpl.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I normally get 12.5 to 13 kmpl on my i10 in the city drives with 30% AC on. I recently filled my car with shell and landed up with 10.5 kmpl

I do not know what wrong. Same route, same traffic condition, same driver, same way of driving, same time driven. I am still not able to figure out whats wrong. Same is the case with my bike on which i use to check with shell fuel some years back. Always i have had good mileage with our Navaratna PSU oil companies only

Always shell has made a big dent in my pockets with low mileage and also high cost per liter.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: Hyundai i10 Kappa2 2012
Total Mileage of car: 1600 KM
FE calculation method: Approx 15 - 20 litres to Low FE indicator.
City FE achieved (overall): 12.5 kmpl
Highway FE achieved : 17 kmpl
AC usage: about 80%

Tyre pressure seems to play an important role in the i10. Once I filled petrol and checked tyre pressure and it gave me 13 kmpl in city. Next time I did not check tyre pressure and it gave me 11 kmpl!

God knows if mileage will improve after 2nd service

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I recently bought a Beat (D) LT and after 1000 Kms my FE is 16.5 KMPL. I used the tank full to tank full method to calculate FE. The car has been driven in city only, with AC on 95% of time.

I was expecting fuel efficiency to be in range of 18-20 KMPL. Is it low because car is too new or should I be worried? What are the things I should check?

I think after 1000 Kms your FE of 16.5 KMPL, is just fine. Allow the engine & transmission to set in properly. Normally after the first oil change service you would find a remarkable change in engine performance & also an improved FE. When I bought my car new my FE figures were as follows:

1000 kms - 15.67 kmpl
5000 km - 15.81 kmpl
10000 kms - 16.82 kmpl
15000 kms - 17.21 kmpl
20000 kms - 17.53 kmpl

And now after driving 1,12,000 kms it has stabilized at 18.48 kmpl

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Autoindian - Indica giving 16 kmpl initially is fine but Beat (A much smaller and more efficient car) giving 16.5 i not fine. It should have given more.
Satish - Please bring this point up with the service advisor in the next service visit you have.

Yes I agree Beat is a much smaller car, smaller engine (1000 cc) & more efficient. What I wanted to convey was any new car is bound to give lower FE initially. Once the run-in period is over, the first oil change is done, the FE is likely to improve by 3-4 kmpl. So if he is getting 16.5 kmpl now, he can surely expect an FE in the range 19-20 kmpl going froward.
