Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My commute to office is roughly 100 kms every day . Both my cars are petrol . Fortunately, I have dual fuel option on both of them . Both the cars were factory fitted (although I am skeptical about the Hyundai car, looks for dealer fitted than Factory). Surprisingly, the Accent on CNG is much cheaper to run than the Beat. Here is the mileage I get on a daily drive from Delhi-Gurgaon-Delhi.

Hyundai Accent 2008 (CNG):

Petrol(With A/C) : 10km/lt
Petrol(Without A/C) : 11km/lt

CNG(With A/C) : 14km/kg
CNG(Without A/C) : 16.5/kg

Chevrolet Beat 2011 (LPG) :

Petrol (With A/C) : 14 km/lt
Petrol(Without A/C) : 15 km/lt

LPG (With A/C) : 12km/kg
LPG )Without A/C) : 14km/kg

CNG is the cheapest and cleanest fuel imho, much cheaper than LPG and even diesel.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

These figures are for a 2008 SX4 ZXi.

City : ~11.5 kmpl with 100% a/c
City : ~12.5 - 13.0 kmpl without a/c
Highway : ~16.0 - 16.5 kmpl with 100% a/c cruising around a consistent 100 kmph [+/- 10 kmph]
Highway : ~18.0 - 19.0 kmpl without a/c cruising around a consistent 100 kmph [+/- 10 kmph]

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Figures for a recent trip : Delhi->Patiala-> Chandigarh-> Delhi
Total distance 647.5 Kms.
Fuel consumed 36.86 liters

Mileage: 17.56 kms/liter.

This trip included 85% highway and 15% congested city traffic of Patiala, state highway between Patiala and Chandigarh.

AC always on at speed 1, cooling knob set at 1/4 way above coolest. Driver sedately between 80-90 Kmh, avoided sudden braking and acceleration for most of the journey

Car: 2005 New Honda city: Kms clocked 125,000. I am loving it

That's very good for a petrol sedan.
Not nitpicking, but just to inform you, Chandigarh Patiala road is a national highway. Earlier it used to be NH64 but now I think its been changed to NH7

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

One of the biggest surprise awaited me when I filled up the tank at Agra and calculated the mileage. It was unbelievable 23.07 km/l.

I had started at 5.15 in the morning from my residence in Ghaziabad for my home town 1400 km away. The road had little traffic and the distance covered in this leg was 296 km. AC was hardly used and glasses too were rolled up. The speed for the first 40 odd kms was 60 and 70 and later 80-90 including occasional 100+ on Yamuna Expressway.

For the rest of the trip I got 20+ and on the stretch between Kanpur and Varanasi it was 16+ (tankful method). 100% AC.

My car: Wagon R. 2007 with 65,000 on odo.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

This is from a recent road trip to Ujjain (A religious place about 60 kms away from Indore):
What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-photo0003.jpg

Car : My 2012 Honda City
Speed : 60 - 70 KMPH
Tankful method after the trip gave a result of 20.64 Kmpl.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

After a 1000 km trip, Fiesta tdci(old) shows a DTE of 845 after a full tank of diesel.

So 845/45 = 18.77 kmpl.

Does fuel efficiency depend on state of battery?

I might sound naive while asking this but - Does fuel efficiency get impacted by the state of battery?

My Wagon R K10 was continously clocking a mileage of 12.5kmpl in city driving with 100% AC on over the last few months. During the same time, I was having battery problems from my SF battery.

Last month, I replaced the defective battery with a new one. I checked my mileage (Reading on Odo/total fuel consumed) and it came to around 14 kmpl.

I didnt really change my driving style, nor my route. So wondering whether it is the battery or the temperature (another theory perhaps based on density of petrol in winter being higher than in summers).

Any gyaan on the above subject anyone?

Hello Aditya,

I don't think state of Battery will effect fuel efficiency by 10%, also summer / winter effect on Petrol will not push the mileage by 10%.

Though the effect of winter on desity of Petrol + less traffic during last two weeks due to festival season may have increased the mileage for you.

Just keep a track & chekc whether this is a one time occurance or continous occurance.

For your information, I am getting mileage of approx 12 kmpl in city from my 2010 WagonR K10.

Thanks,

Yes bad battery may impact FE. Here is how

. When the battery is bad, it requires constant charging at relatively higher current. A normal battery would charge fully and then require only "trickle charge".

. The current generated by the car alternator consumes fuel. As an example at 15A and 15V the power is 225W or around 1/3HP. In case of a really bad battery, the required power may go upto one HP. This is being constantly consumed, so that much of your fuel is going into your battery at the expense of the journey.

Re: Fuel Efficiency for New Jetta AT

Vehicle: VW Jetta 2.0 AT
Odo: 14K

Av. FE in Pune city traffic with 100% AC - 12.5 Km/l

Av. FE on national highways with 100% AC (100 - 110 Km/hr) - 18 Km/l

Av. FE on Mum - Pun Expressway with 100% AC (100 - 110 Km/hr) - 20+ Km/l

Talking to my friends with the MT variant, I do not see a substantial difference in FE between the AT & MT. Considering the size of the vehicle as well diesel running cost, the FE is a BIG BONUS that it offers besides the brilliant ride & handling
