Any pointers from anyone as to how to improve this pathetic mileage. Even 5months ago too I used to get better mileage than this with the following defects: I'm running a slightly jammed rear wheel brake and a poor quality front wheel RHS bearing. Any tips and suggestions towards quality work on these two big defects from a competitive garage in north kolkata will be highly welcome.
An update: The figures which were mentioned in the quoted post had dipped down to 9KMPL (with A/C) and 11KMPL (without A/C) in city. Got the clutch set changed and rear brake shoes adjusted and drum polished with emery paper and adjusted as well as the wheel bearing greased. The discs were cleaned and adjusted. After all these things were done which costed around 5K INR at a good reputed workshop. After this was done in december 2012 gunning the engine on the highway with speeds maintained at 100-110KMPH for a good 40Kms and travelling on B roads with poor road surfaces and return at night on state highway in decent condition all without A/C yielded me a decent 17KMPL. The city mileage with A/C was 13KMPL. It was gradually increasing and last week a 30KM to and fro run to Liluah and back in medium traffic and a 36Kms driving in medium to light traffic in city mostly sunday traffic with relaxed driving without A/C has consumed only 3L petrol resulting in a stupendous efficiency of 22KMPL which was from the fact 66Kms was run on 3L petrol. Now I don't remember any car this old (13Yrs. & 65000KM Run) has delivered this kind of mileage. I just fell in love all over again with my dear Goldie(Maruti 800).

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

For my Skoda Rapid TDI which has just completed a year, I have been getting an average mileage of 16~17 kmpl within city limits. On highways, I have got over 20 kmpl . Post first year service, have not measured the mileage yet.

Nissan Micra XVD

Highway mileage if driven between 80-90 kmph is turning out to be 27-29 kmpl

City mileage is around 22-24

That's phenomenal!

I got 18.4 kmpl on my Linea on a 135 km drive yesterday, with fairly good roads through out and speeds in the range of 90-130, mostly cruising at 110.

That's outstanding!
Do you calculate Full tank to Full tank?
City traffic means is it bumper to bumper traffic?
Are you getting this mileage consistently?

I always calculate through Tank full method.
City traffic means moderate traffic with occasional bumper to bumper.
Yes, I am getting this mileage consistently.

Someone else is claiming more mileage than yours!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Swift Dzire Automatic:

Current odometer reading: 621
Previous odometer reading: 175
Litres filled: 32.2
Shell normal petrol filled at both odometer readings
Mileage after top up at same dispenser: (621-175)/32.2=13.85 kmpl (MID shows 15.2 mostly)

Highway running: approx. 100 kms
City running so far: 521 kms (typical office run is 15 km one way with 12 km of medium traffic and 3 km of bumper to bumper traffic; same route and pattern for return journeys)
AC: Always on
Tyre: Stock tyre of 165/80R14 with no cause for odometer errors

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Bought a Ritz VDI last month.

City -- office time traffic -- driving everyday to work: (no A/C) 16kmpl

Progress: first 380 kms -- 14.8kmpl, 380-660 kms -- 15.6kmpl, 660-1210 kms -- 15.8 kmpl, 1210-1560 -- 16.05kmpl

All measurements done by tankfull method, from the same pump using the same dispensing machine.

MID readings however never showed figures below 17kmpl. Generally hovers around 17.4 to 17.8 kmpl -- very misleading !!

Regards,
Saurav

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Not much posts on a MT petrol Vento. Does anybody have recent updates? What is the Vento capable in terms of FE?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I bought my SX4 (Celebration model) in last August and so far I got an average figure of 16.40 Km/Liter (Diesel) with 50% A/c and most of the time solo drive in Hyderabad City (50 Km everyday). Up till now it clocked 8200 Km.

3rd Service is due in April.

Excellent FE. What does the MID show? Are you using ordinary diesel? Do you drive for economy? RPM ranges (gear shifts), A/C usage and tire pressure please. 80-90 kmph means 2000 to 2200 RPM in 5th gear, right? Were you babying the car while running-in? Was this FE consistent from the time you bought the car or did it increase after any service?

This is what I got from my first full tank on the Micra Diesel. 31 liters + an additional 10 liters filled in between. A total of 870 kms, of which 300 was on the ghats (not the hairpin type), 300 on the highway and the rest inside the city. Not too much bumper to bumper traffic. Speeds less than 80 and RPM strictly below 2500 for the running-in. A/C being on almost all the time.

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?-micra.jpg

The calculated FE comes to 21.2 kmpl and the MID is not much off-value.

How reliable are these MID readings ? More specifically the ones in Swift/dzire. I usually get 21-24kmpl on average fuel economy display for highway runs and consider the actual efficiency to be 2 kmpl lesser.
