Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Time for an update. My beloved Goldie aka Maruti 800DX 1999 who clocked 3000KMS in last 1year with one clutch overhaul in Dec'12 post which around 2000KMS of the aforementioned 3000KMS has been covered has been extremely frugal with myself getting around 13.5KMPL in city with 85% AC usage with a high of 15.5KMPL. On highways spirited drive at 100-110KMPH with 2-3 people in total onboard has been yielding 18KMPL with 100% AC usage and relatively sedate driving at 70-90KMPH with 100% AC usage with 2 people onboard has yielded an excellent 20KMPL. This coming from a 14year old car is not only astonishing but also applaudable. All the more reason for me to cling on to my beloved Goldie.

P.S.: Nowadays city driving in Kolkata city traffic means a max speed of 30KMPH in 3rd and 80% 1st gear 2nd gear shuffling traffic with loads of idling. Guess it clears up the scenario.

Most of Delhi is no better, barring holidays there is a B2B traffic from 8 in the morning to 11 at night.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Recent check on my 2013 Maruti Astar Automatic (still in run-in period with ODO reading 720 kms) gave me 14.05 kmpl with 50% AC on in bangalore city conditions.

428/30.45 litres consumed = 14.05 kms

My commute is mainly along the ORR ( HSR Layout - Bellandur - Doddakenkundi) with occasional trips on hosur road taking BETL flyover.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My A-Star Automatic has covered over 1500km and has completed the third service (1 year / 10000 km) with oil change a month ago.

It was giving around 10-11.5 km in Bangalore Rush Hour traffic with 30% A/C Usage. After the Servicing, mileage has dropped to 9 kmpl. I mostly drive in rush hour traffic towards majestic / koramangala.

As far as I know, my driving pattern has not changed. Tyres are properly inflated as before, and the engine does run smoother.

Any idea how to get more mileage from the A-Star, as many other A-Star owners are reporting 12-14 kmpl with A/C. What is the problem with the car.

Your mileage prior to the service seems pretty good, I think along this stretch the car will be mostly in 1st and 2nd gear coupled with numerous humps to cross.

Which MASS did the oil change during 10k service? They could have messed up something (e.g.) wheel alignment, balancing...

What is the psi you maintain? I am back to 33psi, previously I set 30 & found the ride to be slow.

Change the bunk
Pick an another MASS for next service.
Take her on the highway for short runs, how was your run-in? I keep varying the rpm and make sure that my car hit the 80-110 speed everyday.

I used Leo Motors, from where I had bought the car. The car seems fine. They did not do a wheel alingment / balancing, as the car has got it done just 700kms ago when I replaced my CEAT's with Michellin XM2's. So far their service seems to be ok.

I stick to 32 psi, as recommended by the owners manual, and yes, with lower tyre pressure, the car seems to drag a bit. There has been no feeling of dragging, and air is filled every 2 weeks.

Could it have happened that the service fellows have siphoned a bit of petrol, since I was not present during the service.

I always fill up at one of these 3 shell bunks: UB City, Banerghatta Road or Whitefield. I don't think it's a fuel level / adulteration problem. I never fill up at PSU pumps.

My run in was varied, with around 30% of the distance covered on the Elevated Tollway to Electronic City and NICE Road. I did not try and give it too much revs. The car hit 120km once or twice on NICE road (around teh 1000km mark).

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car : Palio 1.6 GTX 2002

Used to get 9 kmpl consistently in Pune City (100% AC) irrespective of what the traffic is.
Since last 6 months it is giving me 8.6 kmpl. Could be because of the shorter runs I am doing in it lately.
Highways have always been around 12.5-13 kmpl.

PS: There isnt much of an update around on the Palio 1.6's lately. Maybe the cars are going from Extinct to Endangered species, due to the sky rocketing Petrol prices + the lack of knowledgeable mechanics & Spares.
A very able car that will soon get listed into "classics".

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Some how I could not resist loging in and posting this for the past 2 days :-)

Car : Vista VX QJD (1 year & 1 month old - 21,500 kms done)

Did a tankful in Chennai BP pump (Slow filling - Auto cutoff) before starting to my home town (Near Perundurai) at 9PM with a trip meter reset to 0.
Drove with just 2 persons(including me) + ~10Kg luggage.

Route: Sithalapakkam - Kelambakkam Road - Vandalur - Ulundurpet - Salem - Perundurai

Drove with a steady rpm at 1.5K, speedo hovering around 65, without A/C & windows rolled down a few inches, for the entire trip.

Refilled in a Perundurai BP pump (Slow filling - Auto cutoff) early morning.

Total distance covered between the 2 fills - 429Kms - for just 13.8 litres.

Could not believe my eyes - that's an amazing 31.08 Km/L :-)

Okay, What did I loose?
1. Took nearly an hour extra (8.5 hrs) than the usual time that is taken (7.5 hrs) to cover the entire distance.
2. My right leg started paining in the middle of the trip, as I usually press the accelerator a little more, to maintain a 2K rpm at around 85Km/hr. However, I was planning to do this kind of a mileage marathon for the past few months, hence tolerated the ache :-) for the rest of the journey.

update to my figures:
Last week i replaced Stock air filter with OEM stock air filter.
Cost of replacement: Rs 195 (MGA)
When i removed my old Air-filter, i was shocked to see it had become grey-black in colour. When the filter element is supposed to pure white.
Outgoes my old filter and in comes new Airfilter.
Oh boy, it looks my mileage issue looks solved, but is defintely giving more kmpl (needle movement with more kms run). I will confirm actual kmpl with new filter , later once my Tank is empty (reserve only reading).
Guys, i suggest cheapest and easiest replacement to try to look into low mileage figures is Air-filter replacement with new ones.
Note: Mine ODO is 21.5K run, with airfilter not even replaced once.
Kiddo: Rs 195 saves me petrol ..(hopefully)

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My last CNG refill of 8.5 kg (tank was empty) gave ma a mileage of 22+ kmpkg for the intra-city run in dense traffic. AC usage has come down drastically, courtesy the falling temperatures & this has resulted in good number this time from ~20 kmpkg earlier.

Update,
Beat D, at 32k kms, fresh after servicing, giving me 19.5-20 kmpl in city, 20-25% AC with avg load of 2 ppl in the car. :clap
Although highway efficiency is not very good, with 100% AC (set at 24 deg. cel.), 4 people onboard, slight spirited driving with avg speeds of 80-100kmph and touching 120-130 a couple of times, for a 180 km trip it gave me 20.8 kmpl. Was expecting more. But good enough I guess.
