Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Honda City 2012 IVTEC -
City driving all through with medium traffic density. Slow moving at times, but never choking, occassional revving, the slow moving traffic helps me run on ECO mode more often.

Without AC : Consistently 15
With AC : Consistently 13.5 - 14

Coasting is not a good method of saving fuel. Atleast not if the engine is still running. Try to keep the car in gear and that too the highest possible gear. That will boost the FE. Best method is to minimize the rpm, amd not to let it cross 1600-1800 on that tdci. You don't need that turbo for slow FE concious driving

Any particular reason why coasting is not good?
Suppose you are on a flat surface or a slope, and your car has a good speed already with a lot of the road open in front of you - you can coast right? what's wrong with that?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Swift VXi 2008 done 57k kms so far

Consistent fuel efficiency of 13-14 kms per litre without ac if driven sedately within the city.

With ac on within the city or driven spiritedly, it drops to 11-12 kms per litre.

Since my daily run is pretty less, the low fuel efficiency of a petrol car doesn't pinch that hard

For the occasional highway runs, it returns a pretty decent mileage of approx. 16 kms per litre as I maintain speed of under 100 kmps at all times.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My brother's Feb-14 i20 Magna petrol (of Jan-14 month of manufacture) gives a mileage of ~15 kmpl (400kms on 27 litres petrol) without AC.

However, with 100% AC the best he has managed is 12.5 kmpl (~330 kms for same quantity of petrol).

I believe these are good figures for a Hyundai, especially the i20.

My 1.4 crdi verna gives around 15-16 kmpl in city bumper to bumper traffic. On highways I have managed to get 22kmpl, all figures with 100% ac.

While Coasting this way you burn fuel to keep the engine idling but if you are in 5th and not touching the throttle, the cars momentum is rotating the engine, and you are actually burning no fuel. Other than that you are fully in control and a quick downshift will give you engine braking if necessary.

Coasting at extreme low speed in traffic is ok. If you are crawling behind other vehicles at a speed where even second gear idle speed is faster than the traffic speed, then just release the clutch gradually without touching the throttle and immediately move back to neutral. If distance between U and car ahead is increasing do the same again in first or second gear.

If there are any celerio AMT owners here please update your fuel efficiency figures. Need to decide on the car based on mileage !

Thanks so much.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Ford Fiesta Classic tdci.
trip: 799 km
filled: 40.5 litres.
load: full load, 32 psi in all.

Another 4-5 litre remaining before it reach the lower level mark(when i usually refill). AC used sparingly only when it rained.

So ~22 kmpl.
