acheivable

This is acheivable with 5th gear driving on a Santro (on the highway). I once got a late teens mileage on my Santro with AC on. However, the temperatures inside and outside were pretty much same, so the AC did not consume much fuel I guess.

The speeds were more in the 75-80kmph range though.

Help! There is a ghost in my S10!

Drive: Mumbai-Shirdi-Mumbai and my usual Mumbai-Navi Mumbai runs.
4 passengers from Mumbai to Shirdi, 6 from Shirdi to Nashik and 4 again from Nashik to Mumbai. Mumbai-Navi Mumbai runs have upto a max of 2 people on board.
Tyre pressure was set at 28Psi for the shirdi and back drive and at 26Psi for the usual local drives.
Air conditioning used about 50-55% of the time.
Time taken: Mumbai-Shirdi 7 hours! (8.30am to 3.30pm). Shirdi-Mumbai 8 hours!! (7.30pm to 3.25am!).
Pathetic roads right till Shirdi. The "highway" is a two lane dirt road and the famed four laning to make it into a super higway is IMO out-dated from day one!
Type of fuel used : IOC Xtra-Premium and Power at Nashik.
Total fuel used : 45.86 Ltrs. Kms driven : 856.
Average Fuel consumption : 18.67Kmpl.

There has to be something wrong here!

To be sure, I waited till I finished another fuel efficiency calculation and the car has returned it's usual consumption figures of 11.90Kmpl. 483Kms on 40.60Ltrs of IOC Xtra-Premium. In December, the fuel efficiency varied from a worst of 11.90 Kmpl to the best of 18.67 Kmpl. In October the figures varied from 11.38 to 12.09 Kmpl.

EDIT : Thanx to sreenivass for reminding me about the tyres. The car runs on Michelin's XM1 Tubeless 185/60 R14. Used to maintain tyre pressure at 29Psi but found the ride too bumpy on concrete and damaged roads so reduced it to 26 Psi.

If you are on stock 175/65R14 you are supposed to have 29 PSI for medium load and 32 PSI for full load. An FE of 18 KMPL is achievable based on your driving habits & traffic. Its not surprising to get a 11 KMPL/ 16 KMPL (City/ Highway) on Petra 1.6, so I think Palio with lesser weight to carry can return 12/18 KMPL. With better PSI you may be able to achieve even better.

Getz-FE

In the city (Mumbai), my Getz GVS FE is only 9-9.5 Kmpl with AC on 90% of the time. The dealer says its normal. Hyundai doesnt give specific feed-back. Other users usually get 10-12.5 Kmpl.

Swift Mileage

In the recent trip to Wayanad, Swift VXi with stock tyres, gave me a FE of 16.8, with 34 psi and 80% AC, cruising between 80-100 most of the time. In City, I am getting 12+ constantly.

3. It took 28.56 lts @ Rs54.47/lt

4. So FE is 14.65km/lt, in Bangalore on Hosur road. Daily commute between Vijayanagar and EC morning around 8AM and evening around 7-9PM.

Driving habits:
- Press clutch only when it is required to change the gear.
- RPM was maintained between 1500 to 2800 most of the time
- Never shift to 5th gear, unless car is at 70kmph and expects to drive at least 2kms at that speed, what it means is rarely I drove in 5th gear.
- Around 15% AC, as it is winter here in Bangalore
- Tyre pressure was around 36PSI, after driving around 15kms, so at cold it may be around 32psi.

Second Update on my VXI, with most of teh condition remaining same.

From previous filling (cut-off) to recent filling (cut-off), my trip motor was showing 512.3 KMs, and the tank took 34.34 ltrs of Shell Super, implies the FE of 14.91 kmpl

The few changes in condition are

- Nearly 25% AC, with more traffic
- Clutch change over is much better, as I got used to the car.
- The Tyre pressure was around 35PSI, after driving around 8 kms, so at cold it may be around 31-33psi.

Mine is excellent with my Sweetheart Indica DLS

I am driving my Indica on a daily basis for around 70~90 kms from Gurgaon - Delhi and 70 % covering the highway and rest 30% in city. These days without A/c i get an average of 19.8 kmpl and completely on highway I get it around 22 kmpl. [i am about to sell off my Indica in a few days as I am planning to buy another bigger car preferably Diesel] If somebody feels intersted here at TBHP, please do let me know...

With My Esteem LXi i get it around 12 in city and 16~17 kmpl on highway. One thing to note that I drive my cars in between 60~80 kmph and not more than that.

My bullet 500 cc used to give me an everage of 18 kmpl and Yezdi 250 cc deluxe was around 16 kmpl.

regards
Mendi

NHC Mileage

Fuel efficiency on my NHC GXi:

1) 20Nov2006: 314.8/18.6 = 16.9Kmpl (A/C, 20% City)
2) 13Jan2007: 476.2/36.2 = 13.2Kmpl (non A/C, 100% City - driven only in south & central Bangalore)
3) 15Jan2007: 344.0/19.6 = 17.5Kmpl (non A/C, 10% City)

Fuel filled from same bunk & same dispenser (till cut-off). Till now my car has logged 1700Km.
