Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Just completed a Hyderabad-Trivandrum round trip of a little over 3000km in my 2008 Swift Diesel. Here is the fuel efficiency I got for the trip:

Segment 1 (NH 7)
Distance: 438 km
Diesel used: 23.59 L
Fuel Efficiency: 18.57 km/l

Segment 2 (NH 7 + SH 207 + NH 47)
Distance: 441 km
Diesel used: 33.81 L
Fuel Efficiency: 13.04 km/l

Segment 3 (NH 47 + Kerala roads)
Distance: 521 km
Diesel used: 30.18 L
Fuel Efficiency: 17.23 km/l

Segment 4 (Kerala roads)
Distance: 503 km
Diesel used: 27.96 L
Fuel Efficiency: 18.03 km/l

Segment 5 (Kerala roads + NH 47 + NH 7)
Distance: 627 km
Diesel used: 33.57 L
Fuel Efficiency: 18.68 km/l

Segment 6 (crossing Bangalore + NH 7)
Distance: 637 km
Diesel used: 35.09 L
Fuel Efficiency: 18.15 km/l

Method: FE calculated by full tank to full tank (auto cut-off)

AC: Always On

Tyres filled with nitrogen - showed a drop of 2-3 PSI after 1500km and topped up in Trivandrum. Showed 1-2 PSI drop in pressure after reaching back Hyderabad.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My month old Polo TDI has been giving me a fuel efficiency between 15 to 16, measured using the tankful to tankful method. Till 1K kms, I was pretty gentle in the accelerator. Post 1K, the right foot has been pressing on a wee bit harder.
Although I was expecting more but I am not really complaining as the drive and the acceleration always puts a grin on my face every time I take her out.

My 2010 honda city vmt has been giving me 19.5 kmpl on the expressway. This is basically with driving from Mumbai to Pune and back. It also includes driving at speeds greater than 100kmph and with the ac on continuously. In the city with the ac on I get between 12 to 13.

Mileage depends on how you drive and what average speeds you drive.
- What average speed is shown in MID within city?
- What type of highway roads do you drive generally on? Lot of single lane and ghats or just 4 lanes?
- Whats your general cruising speed on highways?

By the way, I get 8.8-9.5kmpl in Bangalore city traffic on my Linea MJD. My home and office, both are in heart of the city and one way commute is 7kms. The average speed as per MID is 10-12kmph. When average speed is around 15-16, I used to get 11.8.12.5kmpl.

On highways, depending on what speeds I drive, I can get anywhere between 13kmpl and 26kmpl. My usual average milage these days have been 17-18.

Well I in fact have a remapped Punto that is supposed to increase the FE, but turns out it hasn't improved much.

Am not sure we can say 13 is a good figure in Bangalore at least compared to competition. I had a remapped swift diesel before as well and it used to give 15-17 in the city. Am not much worried about highway FE as am aggressive on the highway without ever compromising on the driving etiquettes.

This drop in FE is probably due to lots of B2B traffic on my commute; two hours idling. In addition, some 160kms is not driven by me.
