Petrol or Diesel?

If it is petrol, I think Swift would be better because the Figo is based off the old Figo engine which is not a fuel efficient engine. The VVT has improved things, only slightly.

Diesel, both should be close.

Oh no, I missed mentioning it in the post; it's the diesels I was looking for.

Some tall claims are floating around with the FE of both.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Recent trip figures:

Total KMs: 1052 (about 40-50 kms in city rest highways)
Pax: 4 adults and 2 infants.
Total fuel: about 65 litres of petrol
Car: Honda Civic
Air conditioning: 100% ACC
FE: approx 16 KMPL

Last 350 kms was with 3 adults, 2 infants plus about 100 kgs+ luggage in the boot!

I would take these figures anyday for an 1800 cc petrol engine!Really happy and impressed with this gem of engine.

Kudos to your driving! Those are some awesome fuel efficiency figures from a 1.8 petrol engine.

Please share the kind of speeds you maintained and your driving style for this trip. Also how much has your car clocked (I mean, is it old or fairly new)?

Thank you very much.
The car completed 71,000 clicks on this tour and is '07 manufactured, so you can say it is fairly old.
My driving style is usually fuel efficient. Also, as most of the drive was along NH-2 and Ranchi- Hazaribagh expressway, I did maintain high speeds. The trick in my book is to reach at those speeds in a linear and patient manner. I do not generally push the engine through the gears, avoid accelerating when I anticipate braking situation, keep correct tire pressure, and clean the air filter before any long haul. This helps big time. I have clocked 22-24 kmpl on long drives in my Zen as well!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Fuel efficiency figures for my recent trip. It is as per MID, not measured with tankful method.

Car: Ciaz ZXi (Petrol)
Route: Bangalore - Malappuram(Kerala) 340km
FE Onward Trip: 19.8kmpl
FE Return Tip : 19.1kmpl
FE for 160km stretch from Bangalore->Mysore: 21.4kmpl

Difference in onward & return trip should be due to 900m altitude gain, ghat road climbing and 45min of heavy rain which forced me to drive slowly on the way back.

This route had 20km ghats, 25km of bandipur forest road with more than 100 speed humps and another 70km of 2lane roads with twists and turns in Kerala & Tamilnadu. Overall, I'm happy with these FE numbers.

Btw, I get a FE of 12.6kmpl in Bangalore.

I have a Polo 1.2 Tdi, and have not noticed this. I have noticed a strong seasonal variation though. City effeciency is around 17 for 8 months a year staring July to Feb, but it drops to 15 in the summer months. Highway effeciency is a shade above 20, due to work pressure I usually don't leave city in summers.
I regularly clean the air filter at the 5K and 10 K Km, and replace it during service. Effeciency does go up by a km or more after the air filter cleaning.

What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

@Rahul rao - can I get the air filter cleaning done at the ASS or by myself as DIY, since the closest one to me is located 50 kms away?
Update on my FE:
Last tankful yielded 23.59 Kmpl on routine one week drive to work (130 kms two way). The route's a heavy traffic 2 laned NH with lot of speed breakers at some stretch thereby making maximum speeds at 80 Kmph ( cruising between 60-80 Kmph depending on traffic).
Occupancy is myself and another colleague with no luggage and air con set at 24 deg all the time.
Tyre pressures at 34 PSI all around.
Apart from this, drive also included short start- stops to shopping, gym and some idling too.
Given the rapid raise in Diesel prices and colleague opting out of car pool due to finance constraints, & average running of 3250+ Kms a month I am begging for more efficiency to keep commute costs reasonable.

Do it yourself, or find a local garage in your vicinity who has a compressed air blower, and pay him Rs 50 or so to do it.
I get a car wash guy to do it. He takes Rs 250 for filter cleaning, blow cleaning engine compartment with compressed air, vacuume cleaning interior. I also topup oil at that time consumptiom seems 100 ml at 5000 km, and 150 ml at 10,000 km either older oil burns more, or more likely they put in 50 ml or so above max mark during change.

I have seen effeciency in 23-24 range only on 2 lane or 4 lane highways where speed doesn't exeed 80-90. On 4 lanes with 100+ it is usually only a shade above 20.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

With my New Figo TDCi 1.5 L; I'm getting 18km/l with AC on 80 % of time in city traffic conditions. Currently driven around 8000 Km; Its 2nd service is due on completing 10000 Km

You sound very dismissive of such claims. Ford Figo diesel certainly delivers better FE both in city and on highways. Not sure why'd you have such doubts.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

In my Rapid TDI DSG millage is quite erratic.

2 weeks back in 20 liters car ran for 430 km with average speed for that duration to be 47 km/h.

Last week for 20 liters car ran for 250 km with average speed for duration being 17 km/h.

Millage trip meter readings:
Generally when I take my car out and go for errands and do multiple stops in Delhi traffic millage hovers around 10/11, sometimes even less.

Similarly I take car out go for dinner somewhere with fairly less stops then millage is around 14/15.

Tankful to tankful millage varies from 15-18 in city and 19-22 on highway runs.

B2B traffic takes its toll on mileage, as you are travelling less in a given time. My Alto K10 gives around 10 in short trips, but FE climbs to 20 on highways.
