Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Did a short trip of ~480 KMs (Pune to Nashik & back) in our Honda Jazz (October 2017 MT Model). Display showed Fuel Efficiency as 17.3 KMs/L with AC ON all the time. Speeds on two lane highway stretch was 70-90 KMs.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Did a Mumbai - Junagadh - Gir - Somnath - Chorwad while spending some days with my cousins in Junagadh, turned out to be a 2500 km road trip in a weeks time.

First full tank - 19.7 kmpl

Second Full tank - 20.4 kmpl

Third Full Tank - 22.32 kmpl

Speeds were between 100-120 most of the trip, 120 was touched when overtaking someone otherwise it was 100-110 most of the time while cruising.

The cars odometer stands now at 1 lakh 64 thousand kilometer, its a 2008 Swift Diesel.

If I could want something in my life, it would be that this Swift Diesel keeps running like this forever, the handling, the pickup, the torque surge, the mileage, everything is perfect!

I am mostly a calm driver and go on tour a lot. I keep highway speed in the range of 80~120 Kmph based on road condition and local traffic. But sometimes I get a bit heavy on the accelerator on empty boring highways and during cornering on ghat sections. In the city, I have flexible timing for office so I start at 8 AM and leave by 5 PM, so traffic is minimal.

On the highway, AC is always On. In City AC is on for approx 80% time.

Most of my driving is either alone or with my better half and luggage. So the load is less.

My car is Ford Figo (second generation) Titanium 2017 model. I keep tire pressure at 33 psi, 1 pound then recommended by the company for 2 people.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Have been getting 14.xx kmpl in City in my Linea Classic Plus MJD. I thought that's what this car can achieve being a heavy car. But after the 30k service with fluids and filters replaced i have been consistently getting 18.xx kmpl in the same traffic conditions and rest everything same (fuel station, load in the car, route to office). I realised it could be because of the clogged air filters etc. I'll now try a couple of permutations and combinations and try to change the air filter first after 7500 kms and try to maintain these figures. I think (not sure though) the manufacturer recommended interval for change of air filter at 15000 kms is a bit long. I also used to see black smoke when i accelerate hard from 0. Let's see. Have owned and driven cars from Maruti, Tata, Chevrolet, Ford all of which had service intervals of 10000 kms. Fiat is my first car with a 15000 km service interval. Let me see how this pans out in the future. I generally tend to stick to manufacturer recommendations be it service intervals, change of fluids and parts etc. I think that's better than having a unexpected breakdown and getting stranded on the road.

Edit: All figures are with 99% ac on in Mumbai city traffic conditions.

Going by the cost to buy, own, run, maintain, the looks, drivability, cornering abilities and fuel efficiency i feel the Linea is a highly underrated car. It scores in every department and if i need another car i would not hesitate to buy another Linea again.

I believe your car has clocked most of it miles inside the city and your EGR valve must have got clogged. It's better not to follow the 15k interval. I get the oil and filter changed at 8/9000kms. After this the engine wear increases exponentially and these semi synth oils are no good for 15k of city usage. Even at 9k there will too much deposits.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I have a Indica Vista TDI 2009 model run only 41k kms.

City average with ac is 13.5 kmpl

Higway average with ac is 15.5 kmpl

I drive at 90 to 100 kmph on highways.

Fuel efficiency is poor considering its a Diesel (Tata Indigo Engine. IDI Turbocharged- Intercooled)

Ecosport Ecoboost 1.0 2014 run 22k kms last serviced in August 2018

Delhi- Astroport- Delhi (Near Sariska)
Total distance: 463 kms (90% highway, 10% city including 18 kms inside the Sariska Tiger Reserve so speed was less than 20 kmph) with AC on 60% of time.
Occupants: 3 with minimal luggage

Fuel economy: 15.1 kmpl ( as per MID)

Overall, 'almost satisfied' with the figures. I wasn't driving sedately. One thing though, at high triple digits speeds (110+) the fuel economy starts dropping significantly because of the small engine.

Generally get anywhere between 10.5-12.5 in the city in winters with minimal AC usage and 9-10 in the summers with AC on most of the times.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Recently did a Bangalore-Hyderabad trip for 4 days in our Figo Diesel.
Started full tank from Bangalore. After reaching HYD, fuel just shy of half tank was still left. Roamed around HYD for 3 days including trip to Ramoji and filled up partially at the end of the 3rd day.
Tanked up full on the 4th day to start back to BLR and the mileage showed 20.37KMPL. This is a combination of highway and HYD city traffic.
Then tanked up full again once back to BLR to check the highway mileage and got 23.26KMPL.
This is highway driving with AC ON about 80% of the time and speeds of 90-110kmph. Noticed many speed-breakers on the way back to BLR so had to slow down and speed up many times.
All said I think the Figo can do 900-1000km on one tank on the highway easily

Fuelio screenshot below for ref. Also can be seen that BLR city mileage is 16.58KMPL. In BLR city we get about 14.5 - 16.5KMPL.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

During the last 4+ years, the average FE of my City Diesel has only been steadily increasing (touch wood)
During the first two years for the first 30K KM on the stock MRF ZVTV 175 section tyres, the highway average was hovering between 20.5 to 22 kmpl (full load and AC always ON) and about 15 to 17kmpl on Bangalore roads.

After upsizing to Michelin 195 section tyres, the average efficiency actually increased contrary to my expectation that wider tyres would actually lower the efficiency, it has been the opposite
During whole of this year, the average has hovered between 19 to 21 kmpl in the city roads and 23 to 26 kmpl on highways consistently (Mostly driving under 110 kmph on 4/6 lane roads and 80kmph usually on undivided roads)

For instance, during the last 2242 KM (90%highway/10%City) the average FE has been 25.2kmpl. Of the latest 350km of highway driving, the average fuel efficiency was at 28kmpl and came down to 27.9 after entering the city traffic. All this with with full load and AC always ON just normal steady driving and no antics to extract any better efficiency.

In the City Diesel, there is no difference on the pickup/FE whether AC is ON or OFF, the City diesel engine doesn't care. In my earlier petrol car, there was a significant difference in the FE and pickup when the AC was ON or OFF. For eg, it was a norm to turn off AC during climbing on ghat sections in my petrol car. In the City diesel, it just doesn't matter, there is plenty of torque on tap and no perceptible difference in pulling up an incline even with AC ON and full load.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My XUV consistently gives me 11-12 kmpl in the city and 13-14 kmpl on highways

Despite using varied driving conditions from super sedate to aggressive, highway mileage has remained consistent. Same for city. Heavy traffic or breezy roads, the needle remains in that zone.

I kind of like the consistency that the XUV gives. Always easy to predict the band in which my tank would run.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My 2016 Dzire AGS highway mileage. Driven with zero traffic on highway sedately. This car always amazes me with fuel consumption. City mileage is about 18kmpl and highways it goes seldom below 26KMPL. All readings from MID.
No wonder Maruti diesel sells hard
