Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I experienced my best mileage on a recent trip from Chandigarh to Delhi NCR yesterday:

Car - 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI DSG
Odo - 89,000 Kms
Highway at 80 to 100 kmph 28.5 Kmpl
Trip distance - 295 Kms
Tyres - Kenda Komet 34 psi
Fuel - Regular diesel. I am not picky about the brand
Load - 2 pax plus luggage
AC - sparingly used on this trip, about 20%

I often see around 25 Kmpl but this was the highest I have seen. These common rail engines are simply superb. To generate 170 bhp and move a large vehicle like the Passat with such mileage is amazing!

Note: I am a very sedate driver. I never accelerate hard or rev the car. I slow down when seeing an obstacle or red light up ahead and I never speed.

This is legendary! How much do you get in the city?

Cars similar to yours are available for about 7 lakh. Pretty good value I think for a regular highway traveller. ₹ 2.5/km for fuel cost, with top notch safety, comfort and power.

I don’t do a lot of city driving. Mostly I get around 22 to 23 in a combination of city and highway. If I am stuck in heavy city traffic for a long while, it goes down to around 15 Kmpl. Jettas are also really good value as they can be real cheap nowadays and provide good safety.

I am getting 6 km/ltr in my Civic AT. My weekly run is 75 kms and the average speed is between 10-15 kms/hr due to heavy traffic enroute my office in Hyderabad. I guess, I can't expect anything more.
