1998 (carburetted, 4-gear) M800

As of now, I get around 10.2 kmpl (+/- 0.1 kmpl) on my carburetted M800 in city (Bengaluru) driving, with the AC on around 70% of the time and with mixed driving styles (60-70% hard, 40-30% relaxed).

This kind of mileage is not expected from an 800, but I think I can attribute a couple of reasons to it - the primary being that HC emissions have increased nearly 6-fold from Feb. '07 to Aug. '07. I need to get the engine serviced.

Secondly, the unit has clocked 75k+ kms in 9-and-something years now and is probably showing its age (I may be wrong here).

I use only Shell Regular from the bunk on VM Road. The car is serviced at Speed Motors in Subramanyapura, Uttarahalli.

spadix

City: 9.5-10KMPL

My Opel Astra with 1.6 L engine:

I get 5.5 to 7 kmpl in the city with AC on all the times
Reason: AC's on as long as I am in the car whether moving or idling.

I get 17kmpl on Highways with AC on and 13 kmpl (if with full payload)

Driving behavior: I change gears at a shade below 2000 rpm as the car takes it (the engine has awesome torque) When most cars have to rev upto 3000 rpm for a shift (like an esteem) my car easily takes the change at 1800-2000 rpm. In fact the expected mileage asper the manual states optimum fuel efficience at 90 kmph on overdrive.

The car seems to have beend designed for the Autobahns and not a city traffic dog race kinda situation

Have a Mar'01 Indica V2 back home, that returns 19.1kmpl without AC, and 18.3kmpl with 100% AC (when checked last).
Disappointed with the Jun'04 Maruti 800 BS-I which, more often than not, returns 13.2kmpl with around 50% AC in city

Whatever, even if you do 100% hard driving, thats way too low. But, then why should you worry when the fuel is free

Cyne: Pls dont boost about your free account of fuel, Atleast spare a thought of the natural resource which is limited and is fast depleting...
BTW, Do you drive in 1-2-3 gears only ? then that mileage is possible otherwise that is very poor mileage for a Swift dude...

Corsa 1.4 GSI: City with avge speed of 20 kmph over 10-15 kms: 9 kmpl. Mixed with avge. speed of 35 kmph over 20-25 kmpl: 11-13 kmpl (depending on AC).

Corolla Auto: 8 (worst conditions with 10-15 kmph speeds over 10 kms), 9-10 (city with avges of 20-25 kmph), 12 (mixed on city and highway with avges of 35 kmph). These are figures I have achieved during Mar-Sep 07 in Delhi summer with auto AC at around 26-27C. Perhaps expect a 10% improvement in the coming winter season. Highway: have not gone out of Delhi so cannot tell.
