I saw this at a COCO Indian Oil in Pune where the E20 dispenser was clearly marked, so this is being followed.

I shall remember to take a picture the next time.

Very concerning. Should we hold off any car purchase plans for now until E20 situation is clear?

Situation is clear. All new mass market cars are E20 compliant nowadays. Specific premium cars are not (Skoda Kodiaq and new Merc GLC are prime examples).

Pre owned buyers should hold on to their horses. The existing crop of older cars will have all kinds of issues on the petrol we now get. Buyers must weigh the risks against the inflated prices these cars are currently commanding. In a couple of years, E20 rated cars will proliferate into the second hand market.

Yeah. Exactly, I was planning to buy a used car (around 8 years old).

Good they are clearly marking and hopefully they will keep on offering E10/E12 petrol also for few more years.

But even if my car is E20 compliant and E10/E12 petrol is also available, why would I buy 80% petrol by paying 100% money?

That’s why they are pushing E20 as the green and eco friendly option. They are trying to mess with our heads, and they will succeed in fooling plenty of casual buyers.

Long term, they plan to discontinue E10/12. It is only a matter of time.

Will it be a good idea to invest a small amount in a used car right now?

Approx, how long is E10/12 expected to remain in supply?

The markings of Ethanol content is sketchy at best. I haven't seen one personally so far anywhere. The way the govt is sneakily selling E12 fuel without a majority of us being aware of it & the fact that they are totally disregarding the fact that most cars selling today are still not E12 compliant, it just goes to show that they don't care.

We should be prepared to witness graduation to E15 and then to E20 without any attempt by them to clearly mark the fuel as such. All they care about is cutting their costs down & profiteering despite us paying them top dollar for cheaper international fuel.

Abroad, E10 fuel is always cheaper than regular leaded fuel but here it is a different story.

That itself is biggest SCAM in our side of world. Average Joe is least bothered with this E10 & E20 jargon and so is govt. about these joes as they don't vote anyway.

And then they will bring E40, in my opinion, this ethanol pain will only increase every year.

Government fixes the price at which OMCs buy ethanol for blending. Right now, it is somewhere around Rs 60 or 65 a liter. Pre tax.

In contrast, price of refined petrol is about Rs 35 a liter, pre tax.

Clearly, the idea is not to cut costs but to fill the coffers of sugar mills and distillers. This is the sugar lobby at work. Where all this money will ultimately be channelled to is anyone’s guess and is beyond the scope of this thread and this forum. It’s a big game and the only certain outcome is that you and me, the end consumer is screwed.

Today's brent crude price is 83$/barrel which is equivalent to 43₹/litre, if we add even 10-15₹/litre for shipping, refining(and losses during refining) and transporting to the pump it will cost 53-58₹/litre pre tax.

So every year the brand ambassador of Toyota has to unveil a flex fuel car which anyway will not be launched in our market.

How would the E20 petrol impact 2015 model Honda Jazz? Would it destroy the engine and performance? How does one escape from it?
