Skoda Superb discontinued in India; delisted from website

The Skoda Octavia was discontinued from the Indian market in April this year. Now, another premium sedan has faced the axe. The carmaker has just delisted the Superb from its official website, indicating that the model is no longer on sale.

In India, the Octavia and Superb were offered with the EA888 evo3 powertrain, which did not comply with the latest BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. Skoda found that replacing it with the evo4 powertrain was not feasible and hence decided to pull the plug.

Skoda does plan to introduce the next-gen Superb in India, though. It is likely to be launched later this year and could be assembled locally. Reports also suggest that the premium sedan could get strong-hybrid powertrains.

The Octavia is also expected to make a comeback in an updated avatar and an RDE-compliant engine.

Thanks to BHPian MotorDev for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

Re: Skoda Superb discontinued in India; delisted from website

I hope to see both Superb and Octavia return soon, Skoda and VW have offered fun to drive high quality sedans to enthusiasts on a budget ever since they started selling in India, Other sedans with similar depth of engineering and attention to detail are available at a significant premium. The demand for sedans is still alive and starting to pick up with many choosing the Slavia, Virtus and the new Verna

The Superb and Octavia are the 'poster cars' of Skoda in India. While it is sad that the Superb has also been discontinued, the fact that the new gen is coming to India is a huge sigh of relief. Hoping and praying to the car Gods that the Octy makes it here too, because siblings shouldn't be seperated. If there is no Octavia, there is no Superb (at least for enthusiasts).

Skoda Superb to make comeback soon; unofficial bookings open.

Current-gen Superb will go on sale in India again, though in limited numbers as a CBU.

Quote:
Skoda Superb to be sold with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol
Will come with ADAS and a 360-degree camera
To launch in single top-spec L&K variant
Quote:
the Superb will not be locally assembled in India, but will be fully imported. Skoda will bring the new Superb to India under the government's GSR 870 rule that allows manufacturers to import a total of 2,500 units of any right-hand-drive vehicle falling under M and L category, without any homologation requirements.

Re: Skoda Superb discontinued in India; delisted from website

Skoda was doing decent numbers with the Superb, almost double what earlier felt overpriced- the Camry.

Essentially when the segment leader goes CBU with low numbers, we are seeing an end to an already declining segment.

This segment was once thriving with the Honda Accord, Camry, Mondeo, etc. These buyers have now moved up to E-class and 5 series which is a great progression but there are more people ready to jump from City and Seltos to VFM luxury sedan in the 40L OTR range but now there is none.

I do get the market preference for SUVs but that is also because the market does not have a choice for good sedans anymore.
A niche but prominent target audience is senior citizens, who prefer sedans to SUVs and several of them are wealthy enough to exploit this segment but with limited choices.

I feel they're testing the waters before releasing the next gen Superb. According to the report last week the next gen Superb is also coming to India via the CBU route and is expected to cost around 62L OTR(may vary depending on the state)

Waters are already positive for Superb if they launch with an increment of 5-6 L.

With 60+L tag, it may become a different game.

Though government do ease on taxes for 2500 CBUs under the scheme, hence it may not reach skyhigh.

Since the Superb pricing compared to Camry was less before, there were some set of customers going for Superb. Those type of customers will be out now when the pricing crosses 60 plus lakhs. Even 55 lakhs it will not attract much customers.

Already Camry is doing some decent numbers and due to its reliability with Fuss free ownership it will get more customers in 50 Lakhs margin.

If Skoda pulls off the same pricing blunder as other VAG CBU's - the vRS245, GTi, etc. it will be a hardsell for them given the others cars at least came with a certain amount of desirability for their price point despite being outdated models too.

The Superb which at 50L+ is just going to be DOA - I won't be surprised if buyers prefer to get the discounted A6 instead for marginally more. They should instead take their time and launch the CBU New Gen Superb the minute it's out - fully kitted, similar to the Mercedes First Editions and then can bring in the CKDs with lower equipment levels later on (or same ideally but of course pricing is key in this segment as too high is German car category).

Very well-articulated. I fall under the category you have called out in the 2nd half of your above-mentioned statement. I for one will remain a sedan guy forever. For me, the next upgrade over my current Slavia will be the likes of an Octavia/Superb or any other German car ONLY in that budget/segment, period. If all manufacturers go the CBU route for sedans in this category/segment then it makes sense to save up a little more & go for an entry level Beemer, Audi or Merc. By going the CBU route in this segment the VFM quotient is lost due to the price gap between models offered by the VFM luxury brand & the expensive luxury brands.

What I meant was that they are testing the waters to price it at CBU price levels, if these sell well, they'll have data that they can get away with pricing it and will accordingly plan the price of the next-gen

I agree. UNLESS, they do what they are known for with the Superb- Hit way above its weight!
Since the first gen Superb, they have redefined VFM luxury and shaken the market by giving near S class features at below C class price. The E class then was not LWB hence the legroom space on offer was closer to even higher than the E.

There is one feature if added, I will put down my 50L for the Superb - Rear seat calf support! This is one thing that completely changes the back seat experience and makes it 3x more comfy especially on longer distances.

Until recently only higher end cars like the S class and Vellfire had it. But now even the ZX Innova Hycross has it! So why can’t the Superb!? It has the legroom to accommodate it atleast on the rear passenger side.

We have only seen teasers of the front dash board yet. I hope Skoda pulls off this for the rear to justify the pricing because most Superbs are Chauffer driven in our country.

Re: Skoda Superb discontinued in India; delisted from website

Everything depends on the pricing. 50L+ for the new gen Superb isn't worth it IMHO. It would be DOA. If you really want to spend that much money, better to go for a second hand luxury car. That would get you more bang for your buck.
