There is no timing belt for my car. The 1.3 ROCAM comes with a timing chain. As per Ford, it will outlive the vehicle.

Horribly costly service costs at TASS

I had given my Indica Vista QJD for its 30,000kms service. I had instructed them to fill Exxon Mobil Super 1000TM.

The capacity mentioned in the manual is 3.2lt. But i'm billed for 4lt at Rs.1,044.

Coolant at Rs.678.

The labour cost for a general oil service is Rs. 1,544.

The total cost is Rs.4,004. I will upload the bill tomorrow. Is this amt. correct?

Well. I am of the opinion that the service representatives get their salaries based on the amount of the bill ata TASS.

May not be true but it's just my opinion. My 60k indica was serviced at Tass till 40k and I realized service costs were going way more than normal. I actually had compared the cost from 2007 to 2010 and some of the portions of the bill have actually nearly doubled in just 3 yrs. I will try to dig the exact details if I can.

Re: Horribly costly service costs at TASS

if you are spending 4000 odd every 10,000 its not bad. Normal oil change service cost for most cars comes to 1500 odd when there is coolant change involved.
That said.
Can you see whats the 1500r labor for? I am sure they snuck in some items like engine treatment and other bull

Re: Horribly costly service costs at TASS

@petroguzzler: Please share the bill, and as tsk have mentioned, see if they have added anything like oil additive or engine decarb.

Friendly advise: Things like coolant can be checked and topped up by our-self easily in almost any car. I think it is better if we our-self take care of doing small jobs like this.

Re: Horribly costly service costs at TASS

For general Oil/Coolent change i go to the near by garage buy a can of Oil and Coolent and he puts it in front of me. Charges INR 100 for all that. I believe once the free service is over all A$$ charge more for Oil (For the kind of money they charge i put in Synthetic) and their labor charges are also high. Please upload the bill but over a cursory look they do seem high (considering they have put normal oil and not synthetic).

Since you have asked for a particular brand of oil, they would have charged you as per the packing, they cannot charge you for 3.2 ltrs when the oil comes in a 4l pack, have the returned the 800ml of oil back to you?

How much coolant have they replaced?

1544/- for general service would also involve additional work like greasing, brakes cleaning etc. I suppose. Without additional work, the normal service charge should be around the 650/- range.
