Yep...I have noticed this phenomena with my frnd's opel corsa, looks very tidy and compact from outside but big enough from inside, brilliant stuff of designing to say the least..

the SX4 looks normal when viewed from a distance. but when you come closer it is a behemoth. but the space inside is normal.

That is probably because the Greenhouse area has disproportionally grown, with respect to the overall area of the car. Automakers have realised the wasted potential of the long bonnet (boohoohoo!!)

I for one find Fiesta to be small and even SX4 looks cramp width wise when compared to Honda City... probably got to do something with its elevated a/s/s

dear all,sometimes the colour also plays a role in looking big or small.a dark on civic makes it look smaller whereas light colour makes it look bigger.correct me if i am wrong please?

Dark colours do make most cars look smaller.
