New City VTEC or Cedia

Yes ! The thread title isn't a typo.

There are threads on how good the Cedia is and how if fares in the C+ segment with against the Civic, Corolla, etc. This makes sense, since size-wise and feature wise they probably belong together.

Last Friday I went for a Cedia TD and the comparison with the VTec struck me. Reason ?
OTR price in Kolkata

City VTec - 8.7. Around 8.5/8.6 after (corporate) discounts.
Cedia Select - 9.0x. Around 8.7 after dealer discount. AND this is without any bargaining. I'm sure one can bring it down further.

So for approx 8.6 L, in the Cedia you get
1. A 2L refined Jap engine
2. 115 BHP against 100BHP
3. More torque
4. ABS
5. EBD
6. Airbags
7. Fab and better ride and handling
8. 15" & wider tyres
....

The VTec has
1. A very refined engine
2. H badge
3. Better A.S.S
4. Parts are cheaper
5. Double DIN alpine deck vs the Blaupunkt in the Cedia
6. Better FE probably
7. Better resale
....

One would surely think the Cedia should sell more. Yet look at what HM has done to it.

Btw, the Cedia sports retails for around 9.2 ish OTR, before major haggling.

I'm setting up a poll here. Which one would you buy ? But I guess it's futile, since the winner will surely be the VTec.

Sad.

of course not. most of the people on the forum are enthusiasts. im sure the cedia will win. its a much better car.

OT - but about the dual din music system being listed as better - just because its a dual din doesnt make it better.

just beg to differ on 2 points u quoted for the NHC VTEC

better A.S.S - very citi specific i think bcos down south HONDA has an attrocious reputation for service

and

Resale value - i somehow feel the NHC VTEC may not command a good resale value as the OHC or the NHC EXI/GXI...

IMHO - the NHC VTEC is more an after thought than anything else...i mean, who would constitute the resale market for the VTEC ?

someone who wants a good performance car, good handling and good looks, at a reasonable price...thats probably why a lot of ppl bought the OHC 1.5 /VTEC which has resulted inthese cars having a good resale value...

i dont think the NHC VTEC might command the same following in the resale market

I will go for a Cedia for sure....

Specially after seeing ROC's red Cedia during the yelagiri drive, i just fell in love with its looks as well....Not only it has juice under the hood but also it has some excellent looks...

Cedia cannot be compared to a City

Cedia is more in a Civic category, eventhough, the cost varies

We all know the pricing in India is difference compared globally.

I have been quoted 9.99 L OTR before haggling in Pune. Is there really such a major difference even before haggling starts?

Also, as speculations are going on with intoduction of ABS/airbags in City, may be sometime down the line, the "Old" NHC's resale value will be under pressure.

Cedia will definitely score over VTEC in all respects !!

Why does the poll option have Cedia Select? I would go for the spirit with the leather and other stuff.

Ok if I was buying the car, with my money, its definitely Honda City Vtec. If someone was to lease a car to me, that would never be mine, than I would choose Cedia. So all those in favor of Cedia in this forum, really dont care about your hard earned money and are shooting from the heart. But when you spend close to 9 Lakhs of your moolah, head should rule over heart. Enuf Said!

I am sorry to say that even after being a hard core honda fan i will choose the mitsu cedia, just besause of the fact it is a much better car to drive. The nhc is just a disgrace to the past reputation of honda the ohc type 1 with its blasting 16 valve hyper engine, the ohc type 2 with its blistering vtec engine and finally honda uses its jap brain to take out the nhc with its pathetic idsi engine.

Over here, we are voting with our hearts. In reality, we will vote with our wallets and that changes things totally. Imagine, if I bought a Palio 1.6 instead of my OHC vtec, I would have lost as much money f I sold it now - four lakhs. The interest of extra 4 lakhs that I stumped up balances out on the fuel cnsumption and relative lack of service aggravation.

One thig to note is that, as good a car that the Cedia is, it has been phased out overseas. the OHC is a current model till end of this year.
