NDTV Auto had a great interview with Rajeev Chaba, MD of JSW MG Motors India

Key Excerpts from the Interview:

1. MG Majestor, Cyberster and M9 - all to be manufactured in India.
2. Majestor launch most likely in Q3, Cyberster and M9 Q2/Q3 in a phased manner.
3. LOI issued to dealer partners for MG Select on 19-Jan. MG Expects to put the MG Select Showrooms in 4 months, enabling the launch of affordable luxury by the end of Q2.
4. Initial target to open 12-13 MG Select showrooms, and expand to 25 in 2-3 year time.
5. PHEVs are also in the pipeline for MG, CNG too, but not too keen.
6. MG Majestor will be sold through the regular dealer network and it'll cost way more than Gloster
7. Luxury car market. (cars over 50L) are around 50K per year. MG wants 10% of it in the next 3-5 years.

I want to commend MG for being adventurous with constant launches in India. Notwithstanding the success of new vehicles, they are constantly updating their portfolio in India.

But this vehicle in particular is really an intriguing one. They have launched it as a 2025 here, but this exact same vehicle, even with the same alloys, was launched in China in 2023 as Maxus Territory or D90 by SAIC. So I guess we are 2 years behind.

I think it looks a lot better than the Gloster. The front grille looks imposing, but the rectangular shape and the vertical lamps give it a certain vibe, like one of those huge American trucks.

Compared to the Gloster which had such a disjointed looking front end, with a misshapen grille, tiny headlamps and weird lines, this is a major improvement and actually looks appealing and even proportional to me.

Now, if they actually worked on the engine and gearbox and worked out the issue with the performance and drivability, this should be a nice SUV, especially with MG's awesome interiors.

Is it just me or does the name Majestor sound a bit…you know, ‘Harry Potter’?

Majestor testing continues. Saw one in NCR, it simply bosses over an XUV!

The Gloster has been due for an upgrade for a long time (not as much as the fortuner :coldsweat), but I cannot seem to figure out what is taking them so long. When we were planning on replacing the Fortuner around August last year and the Gloster had deep discounts, we were informed that the facelift (now the Majestor) would be launched in January at the expo, and we decided to wait.

Wishful thinking, but I hope they bring in a petrol, or a hybrid setup for us folks up north. Hopefully by the time we change in another 2 years now - the new gen Fortuner and the Majestor to compete against it clap:

MG Majestor SUV spied sans camouflage ahead of launch

MG’s upcoming flagship SUV, the Majestor, has been spied testing yet again. This time, the SUV was spotted completely undisguised.

The MG Majestor was unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. It will be sold alongside the Gloster.

The Majestor features a bold exterior design with an octagonal front grille, stacked LED headlamps, and slim LED DRLs. It has slim wraparound LED taillights connected by an LED light bar, dual exhausts, and a prominent ‘Majestor’ badge on the tailgate.

Inside, the Majestor will offer 3 rows of seats. It will feature a new dashboard layout with a large touchscreen in the centre, a digital instrument cluster and other creature comforts.

The Majestor will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive system.

The majestor logo on the rear itself is sufficient reason for me now to consider it (if i had the budget)

That's some brand insecurity. That MAJESTOR lettering is to say the least "MAJESTIC". Add to that is the Morris Garages lettering over that.

What were the designers thinking? Now Gloster's lettering looks palatable suddenly rl:

The hector branding on my car was removed day one, future owners (if any) of this car should follow suit.

Yes, this does not have the Internet Inside badge. I guess they are trying to compensate for it.

The badge is a bit too minimal, IMO it should be 4 sizes more up. Remember, badges should always be bigger than the car, so MG has a lot of scope to fix this design before launching.

De-badging will be the greatest aesthetic mod for this car.

Sorry, I am not updated on this but is Majestor a facelift of the Gloster or a totally new car? If it is a different car, in what ways is it different from the Gloster?

An unpopular opinion, but I like the badging. It suits the size of the car

The car looks really nice in black. With a good price, some flashy features and that kind of road presence, it has the potential rake in good numbers for the brand till Toyota wakes up. Getting rid of those badges is a 5-min job for any seasoned detailer, so I won't worry too much about that.
