Hi,
Can any one tell as to why do all cars have air bags on the driver side.
most of our air bag equipped cars fall in the category of chauffeur-driven cars .so that means after spending more than 10 lacs ,u are paying for the safety of your driver.which
in case of a real bad crash ,the driver will be more safer than the owner.
Can anyone explain why.??

dont u think its high time car makers shud compulsorily have ABS,Traction ctrl and air bags for the back seat passengers

The biggets cause of fatalities in car impacts are impact injuries from the steering column. Remove the sterring colum, fatalities will reduce, joysticks still not there yet so hence the airbag

Again right on target.

Also, in most of the cases if there is a driver the owner sits on the back seat. And with speed limits of 80 kmph , who needs an air bag to survive. The front seats could act as cushions. They could also offer airbags as optional equipment. But how many people would go for it. Indians will first have to be educated abt the importance of airbags. Most of us wear seatbelts just to escape penalty (not me), not thinking even for a moment that its for our safety. How many people have you seen hooking up the seat belt. Instead they just pull it over and hold it. Indians are very price conscious. Safety vafety comes much later. In india ABS, Traction control etc etc is not advertised as a safety option , but just as a marketing gimmick to increase sales.

Spot on. Also a properly used (no slack, proper tension) seat belt should help in most cases.
