What you want, my friend, is the Punto Abarth.

Engine/transmission: 1.4 turbo (155), 1,368cc inline four-cylinder petrol with four valves per cylinder; 153bhp at 5,500rpm, 151.9lb ft of torque at 5,000rpm (169.6lb ft at 3,000rpm in "sport" mode). With Super Sport "esseesse" kit (180), 178bhp at 5,750rpm, 200.6lb ft of torque at 3,000rpm. Six-speed manual gearbox. Front-wheel drive.

Performance: 155 top speed 129mph, 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds, EU Urban fuel consumption 29.4mpg, CO2 emissions 160g/km. 180 top speed 133.6mph, 0-62mph in 7.7sec, mpg and CO2 emissions n/a.

We'll see this in India when pigs fly.

If we see this in India now, we'll make pigs fly! Too many pigs loitering across the roads, you see

Is maruti making the multilet engine for fiat in india? If so, i wonder if the turbo issues that plague the swift would appear on the gp too!

No. Fiat and Tata are making the multijet/quadrajet engines in a shared plant near Pune.

Hey jay,as far as my info goes the engine is manufactured by MSIL and supplied to fiat. They used to suppy the turbo initially and now its made in india.the earlier price for the swift turbo was 45000 and now guess it its just 15000.

1.3 Multijet engine is produced by FIAT in Ranjangaon plant only. These engines are supplied to TATA and MAruti cars. Maruti does not manifacture these engines as these are liscensed by FIAT.

This question has been asked and answered so many times in the forum.Maruti makes its own DDIS engines under the license from FIAT, in its own plant. FIAT & TATA manufactures the MJD engines in their Pune Plant. Both makes their own and they dont supply to each other.

Are you sure its just 15K. Is that how much an engine costs. I hope gear box is a seperate thing. I am curious to know how this actually works if Maruti guys are manufacturing the DDIS engine themselves. Then the Fiat Ppl have to share a lot of Technical design/ Manufacturing details. I wonder how much license fee/ royalty fees the fiat guys are getting per engine.

15K is not for the whole engine. It is just for the turbocharger.

Well, FIAT needs to give Maruti the blueprints for the whole thing and let Bosch supply the ECUs. They don't need to tell them how they ended up with such a nice design or why it is so good. It's not like Maruti can't just rip apart a Palio MJD engine and see what's what. They aren't giving up anything that isn't already obtainable.

Engine design is a lot of black magic for the uninitiated.

I understand the 1.3 FGT isn't exactly a slouch - 0-100 km/h in 13.6 s. Better than trundling around in an Indica Vista. Check out this link - Fiat Grande Punto specs: 1248 cc turbodiesel engine, 75 bhp - car magazine, auto reviews at motiontrends.com.

However, the pick of the lot definitely appears to be the 1.3 VGT 90 BHP GP with a six speed gearbox (0-100 in 12 s). Link - Fiat Grande Punto specs: 1248 cc turbodiesel engine, 90 bhp - car magazine, auto reviews at motiontrends.com.

Another UK review (http://www.channel4.com/4car/rt/fiat/grande+punto/506/5) compares the 1.3 VGT 6-speed with higher engine options and says "It effectively makes the 120bhp and 130bhp 1.9-litre diesels redundant: it's just not worth paying any extra for these as they really don't feel any quicker in real-life, every-day driving, and their 8-valve engines feel less flexible than the 16-valve 1.3. They're also considerably less economical, and feel a bit more nose-heavy to drive."

But then, expecting six forward gears in GPs sold in Bharat Desh may be a bit over the top.
