I agree with SilentEngine here. More specifically, Swift, I20 and Jazz. I think Fabia hardly sells to be seriously taken as a 'competitor'. I thought Jazz would be a good competitor, but it seems Honda is not so much interested in big numbers as they are in positioning it as the 'best' (read most expensive) hatch.

Wait for 13th May.

If you pester the dealers in your town you just might get a feel of the Grande Punto on the 13th Of May unfortunately with the 1.3VGT.

I was hoping they would bring out the 1.6VGT but it looks like thats a dream that will take another 8 to 9 months.

I owe you guys a treat! May what you say come true - I am dreaming of possibilities of replacing the tires with the 17'' rims, fat rubber, Pete's box... (drool)

PS:- I was hoping for a Fabia 1.9 Sports version - Looks like it may not come and even if it comes, I am scared to touch a Skoda now! (The orange color Fabia still calls out to me in my dreams ) - Btw, did you know that this color is not available in the top of the line 'Elegance' trim- The top end has least number of options in color, and no exclusive colors

If people bought Dzire believing it is a hatch+boot, they would have bought Swift instead if they didn't need boot. So I don't think its a direct competition.

I think GP would compete against Swift, Getz, i20, Fabia and maybe Jazz
I confirm that ritz will be placed above the swift,GTO has never said that its in i10 league for that matter i believe.ritz,i20,getz(soon to be discontinued maybe)GP,Jazz, and to a certain extend, fusion, and skoda fabia would compete against each other.
The models which could be the winners are GP(maybe fiat badge disadvantage may hinder the sales),Ritz(maruti badge advantage),and Jazz(honda badge advantage)
cheers

Sorry this is OT here, but IMO Ritz cannot compete with GP. GTO's report has the comparison with i10. So obviously there is some reasoning behind that. I don't understand why Ritz would be positioned above Swift?

It is a great news for fiat GP lovers! i personally wouldn't mind the 1.3 vgt, considering that GP would be lighter than linea.
Wow everything has been perfect till now.

Now Fiat, please! please! please! dont screw up anything here on!
Cheers

1.6 Multijet for Grande Punto. Good Day Dreaming!! I too had that dreaming before I settled with Linea 1.2! Honestly 90bhp multijet Grande Punto will be quicker and faster than most diesel cars below 10L. And add a superb mileage to that. Nothing to complain about. Or spend another 28K for the tuning box from Petes to boost to a minimum of 102bhp.

If Fiat comes up with 1.6 VGT for Punto, I am a sure shot buyer. This definitely fits my idea of a car; compact, spacious (I know, I know), powerful, desirable. This will tick all the check boxes then. But, I doubt whether Fiat will ever do that in India.

Aaaahhhh !!! Finally some dates to the grandest Grande launch. Good news indeed. I can surely live for a month before contemplating a new car. Any clues if the top end version comes loaded with ABS/EBD, Airbags and Blue&Me. Would love to have it all nicely packaged if possible.

1.6VGT will never be available with Punto for sure . Even 1.3 VGT engine would be good for Punto being lighter than Linea , i wish they change there gear ratios n make it more sporty or atleast a Sports model .

I too thought that their gears are too short. But after driving Linea, I'm finding that the gear ratios in Linea are perfect. In fact I would hate to drive Swift DDiS now because I wouldn't be able to shift to second gear before 35 for my kind of driving, i.e. to get a good pickup. In Linea, I can shift to gears so quickly and I can always stay within the turbo band, whereas long gear ratios would make one to shift late and still be at the bottom end of rpm in the next gear.

However, a sixth gear is required for long drives. That is where I also dreamt of a six speed dualogic gear box that they have for Europe. I don't know why they didn't bring that to India. It has both power and fuel efficiency.

If they cannot provide a sixth gear, then they should change the fift gear ratio. That should be perfect.

In Europe, 1.3 VGT has 6 gears in the manual configuration.
