The Mark I Punto looks so similar to Palio. I remember reading somewhere that Palio platform was a more strengthened one to that of Punto specifically targeted towards developing countries such as ours and hence heavy. AFAIK, even the 1.6 engine of Palio used to be fitted in Punto in Europe some time back.

The three door version of Grande Punto looks really hot, wonder why no other manufacturer other than Maruti have given this option here to test the market. If they can experiment with estate version of cars, why not 3 door hatchbacks? Really wish this was made available here.

No they can't. The Uno is still in production in Brasil. They can launch it as the Punto Classic like in Italy.

Maruti didn't experiment. When the Alto replaced the Zen as the new Alto in Europe, they were left with surplus stock of the old 3 door car, which they sold in India as a Limited Edition at a premium.

White looks damn smashing!
Blue is also one of my favs and Red is also nice.
I guess these 3 shades will be major sellers.

FGT or VGT, i am just waiting to get my hands on it anyways.

Expected commercial launch 17th june 2009. 3 engine choices 1.2litre petrol, 1.4litre petrol, 1.3litre Diesel
Trim levels Active, Dynamic, Emotion, Emotion pack (the last one with Blue&Me etc)....the competition had better watch out....this car can send the competition scurrying for cover what with fantastic build quality, european build quality and expect very good suspension setup too.....
Are we looking at the potential 2010 Indian Car of The Year??? Only time will tell...

Caught a red Fiat GP at Marine Drive on Friday around mid night. It was parked right behind a Linea. With the boot open and a few guys surrounding the car, it could either be a test car for the mags/tv shows or probably a dealer's car. It goes without saying that the GP did look smashing in that red.

That's great! Red GP does look smashing. I hope it's the same red that's avaliable internationally. I am still hoping that Fiat will launch the VGT MJD in this car.

The current palio's double barrel headlights looks a lot inspired from this model.

Oh my god!!

That 3-door punto looks so hot, I'd buy it asap!

bad thing we wont be seeing any of em on Indian roads.

Ultra bad thing, they are manufactured in India(3-door versions) for export and still no hope.

nevertheless, red punto indeed looks hot.

As confirmed by dealer in an informal chat yesterday:
  • First lot of cars have left factory for dealers.
  • Launch date 17 June 09
  • FGT multijet and two petrol engines (a 1.1? and a 1.4? - no too sure for both)
  • Top end multijet (emotion pk with ABS - airbags et al) is around 6 lakhs in Delhi.
disclaimer: This was an informal discussion. I am not sure if this 100% correct.
