re: 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire spied on test. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.79 lakhs

Maruti Suzuki's Dzire shows its road presence. Will it make Ciaz obsolete?

- New Dzire will likely get a segment-first electric sunroof
- To get new 82hp, 112Nm Z series engine
- Will use the same overall layout as the Swift, with a 9-inch free-standing touchscreen system and a new steering wheel
- Analogue instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch digital MID.
- Unconfirmed reports suggest that the new Dzire could even get ADAS – at least in the higher variants.
- Deliveries starting by around mid-November.

The Ciaz is already obsolete. Three generations of Swift have existed in the life cycle of the never updated Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

And that, gentlemen, is the deal breaker: any engine sourced from the Baleno twins would've sufficed instead of the extremely lethargic 3-pot from Swift. Hopefully they understand this. I for one would keep my eyes peeled for a turbo petrol — but then this is the unambitious and safe-playing MSIL on whom I'm trying to hedge a bet.

That 3-pot engine - whatever fuel efficient and (un?)engaging it is - has already affected the Swift sales, IMO. Is DZire going to face the same fate?

Either a Turbo is needed to satisfy the power requirements or a Hybrid is needed to satisfy the FE (ego) requirements of 35KMPL!

re: 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire spied on test. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.79 lakhs

I caused quite a few giggles in an offline chat when I likened the front to an A3 , but silly brand comparisons aside, the design finally looks mature instead of a some combination of a Swift + boot.

The rear would look far cleaner with a sleeker tail-lamp cluster. Maybe squish the bottom part of the arrow-tail to half its size, and make the turn & reversing lamps thinner (could be stacked vertically too).

Maruti could also consider dropping the Ciaz, increase the DZire's dimensions a bit, offer a higher spec motor and cover both segments. Ciaz isn't going to compete with the turbo petrol sedans anyway (esp. the 1.5 + DCT/DSG combos), even the once-desirable City is barely selling.

Are you suggesting:
Swift
Swift Pro
Swift Pro Max

I get that the 3-cylinder engine is getting a lot of hate from the market. But as per the reviews and the media drives the Z series engine is not lethargic by any means and the driving experience is rather lively. The K series is indeed a beauty of an engine, but I guess Maruti wants to strategize the market by clearly differentiating between a Swift and a Baleno by offering two different engines.

This has been said for a very long time now- "If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else would gladly do it for you".

With this Dzire, Maruti might be trying to offer a more value quotient in terms of a complete family car. Space, features, boot space and a sedan in a plethora of C-SUV's.

Looks like good design. I like it. I hope they give the engine a bit more power. The existing one seems puny. I know they won't do it, but wishful thinking.

I just couldn't ignore the tail lamps design lifted from XUV7OO.
Specifically the tri-lobe red element.

If the Suzuki logo was replaced with Honda's, this could definitely pass off as an Amaze derived from the current gen City.

Its good that Maruti is differentiating the design from the Swift hatchback, hoping this can reignite the compact sedan segment.

Even the Grand i10 nios has a similar vibe.

Overall the DZire checks all boxes. Looks to be a nice small family sedan, 6-airbags, sunroof, 360 degree camera, best in segment mileage and decent performance from that AMT.

Car looks very appealing. The brand "Dzire" has matured now. Definitely will remain to be the Segment Leader. The tyres look skinny from these pictures though IMO.

Weirdly the sub-4m sedans have started looking good when the segment is nearing towards extinction.

  • No exterior correlation with the Swift.
  • Wide, mature and proportionate design.
  • ADAS rumored ! And yes, Amaze is likely to get it too.
  • Sunroof !
  • Higher mileage !
Overall the Dzire has become even more desirable.

But safety ?

Test drove it in the new Swift, the engine, if you compare it with a 100+hp turbo petrol, does feel lethargic, but, if you compare it with the old K12 engines, it feels about the same in terms of throttle response, a bit more vibey because of 1 less cylinder, and the revs climb up about the same. So as far as driveability, not THAT different.. The drop in power will only be noticeable if your doing a drag race with the previous gen (90hp Swifts).. but then, you don't do that if you drive regularly. And the car apparently did get lighter, so that probably kept the power-weight ratio similar..
Overall, it's about the same.. just sounds and vibes like a 3 banger..

First time Maruti Suzuki will be appreciated for good design. Very neat and proportional!! Older version used to give a desi Aston Martin type feeling ( my personal opinion ).

This car will be on top of the charts helping MSIL gain more business and money flow. Hope this will
Be feature rich too.

Cheers

The styling of the car is a 10/10! But the rear of the car is disproportionate and the engine even from the sound of it seems massively underpowered! This car would have been an absolute cracker with the right engine options.
