Just when the crowd started getting bored, the magician just pulled off a hat trick....

Great Looking product, Time tested after Sales and reliability and now even great safety!! Maruti did what no-one expected out of them and that is the sign of a leader.

re: 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire spied on test. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.79 lakhs

Man 2024 is full of comebacks. Never expected this!

So, now the Dzire gets:
• Good looks *check*
• Fuel efficient engines *check*
• CNG *check*
• Fully loaded features *check*
• Safety *check*

The only thing that's not clear is the pricing. If Maruti prices the new gen ~80-90K more than the current gen, they have a winner in their hands. This can outsell even the current best selling cars like Ertiga and Creta.

re: 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire spied on test. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.79 lakhs

So just a lingering thought, if Dzire can achieve a 5 star rating WITH stable shell at less than a Ton what really has changed? Did they use some sort of high tensile alloy for the car to get such a high rating or is it something else? Also after this result does the common myth of the more the car weighs the safer hold true anymore?

Nothing has changed. The Dzire's performance is identical to the last generation of European-spec Swift, which weighed 855 kg on the kerb.

The B platform is designed to use 980 MPa steel which — I take from these interviews with Suzuki and Honda engineers — was not locally available in India until a few years ago. Note that although hot stamped steels are more expensive to produce they have absolutely no weight increase.

How? If not for the critics Maruti would have given us another tin box. Maruti didn't do any charity here. If there is anything that the critics should be blamed for it is for being unnecessarily concerned about the lives of a bunch of customers who didn't put any value on their own lives.

Now I feel that the critics shouldn't have bothered.

Hi Ron. Where can I get the English translation? Thanks in advance.

Separately kudos to MSIL this was long overdue.

C'mon Maruti now do the right thing. Plonk the fronx's turbo motor into the Dzire and you will have truly won your way into the enthusiast's wallet.

That is true but is not a true impediment to using it. Suzuki was using it in Seats as well since the previous gen Baleno but for Euro Spec models. Suzuki never had any dearth of Engineering abilities when it came to structure. Imagine the EECO being able to meet today's Crash regulations with a structure that was designed 25 years back! What did change was the intent.

What caused that change is not known though. A social media outcry. I am not too sure. But then what do I know. A change in right direction is all that matters. But what I can predict for sure is Dzire sales would not increase an iota because of this rating.

Are we looking at a premium pricing for the Dzire? The new gen Swift ZXI plus AMT costs 9,44,500 which is higher than the present Dzire ZXI plus which retails for 9,38,750!

Even the Etios which was bigger in size with bigger engine and kerb weight of 915kg still got 4 star GNCAP rating way back in 2016/17.

Hope they soon improve the body shell of other cars using the higher grade steel

I feel that top end automatic variant of new Dzire might breach ₹10 lakh ex-showroom price bracket. These variants will have more features and have a different set of buyers. Some buyers who were looking at Tiago/Tigor for safer cars might comeback to Dzire as the new Dzire is definitely a looker from front, has a sunroof and now boasts 5 start GNCAP rating.

Now the unwelcome move may be, Maruti will increase the price substantially to cash in on this hype. Just like they did to Jimny which was decisive in its disastrous fate.

To be fair the Eeco somehow barely cleared the ECE94 injury criteria even at 64 km/h and without airbags when GNCAP tested it in 2016. The head did not cross the HIC limit and even the chest was 'poor' only after the structure penalty (otherwise based on dummy readings alone the 'poor' limit for compression is the same as the ECE94 pass criterion).

So the score was not actually capped to 0 if you look closely but it was a zero star car anyway because the points were very low. Plus the tibia readings were not in the red zone, which means it would have passed ECE94/AIS98 with those dummy readings.

Regulatory tests of course do not account for poor robustness much. Even the Ford Figo (1st gen) had cleared ECE94 criteria in a one-off GNCAP 56km/h test without even a driver airbag, just because "the driver's head narrowly avoided contact with the steering wheel". Even the Mahindra Bolero and Bolero Neo clear AIS98 despite clearly having a very bad structure.

I believe it will be a good value for money if the ZXI Automatic is priced below 10L OTR.
