Cars I don't like, but love something- Tata Harrier and Safari. I hate the cars, due to Tata motors and their QC. The QC aspect was always a huge negative for them, but it continues to regress, and in 2024 it's at its worst! That said, I simply love the styling of 2024 Harrier and Safari. These cars look like they belong to 50-60 L segment.
Cars I like, but hate something- Just like all the Kia cars on sale currently (no opinion on Carnival and EV6). They are fun to drive, have host of engine gearbox options, quality interiors, niggle free to own, cheap to run and maintain, good ride and handling balance and feature loaded to the brim. But they indulge in a silly cost cutting of not providing a front passenger side request sensor. I recently swapped my Ecosport S Tdci with a GT Line DCT Seltos, and the absence of request sensor on front passenger side really bugs me a lot. For a car that is so well loaded with equipment, why indulge in such silly cost cutting?
Cars I don't like, but something in them that I like :
Mahindra XUV7OO/XUV3OO - Dislike their looks. But love their engines. Both diesel and petrol, they are superbly refined and punchy
Cars I like, but don't like something about them :
Volkswagen Polo - Lovely little car. Just dislike the rear bench and stiff suspension. Social media reveals a section of owners of polo/thar are cringe tbh.
Something Good about the car I Dislike (Hate is a strong word hence I would say dislike)
Hyundai Verna - 5 Star crash rating, Heated seats, features, features, features (dont like the styling and dont trust it to last for 10+ years)
Hyundai Creta - Features, upright stance perfect for Bangalore roads (I dislike this much loved car because it's too common and older gen should have had better crash test worthiness)
MG Hector - Van pretending to be a SUV, Soft ride quality isn't to my liking, Dont know if it will last for 10 years
Mahindra Scorpio - Imposing stance, 5 star safety
Something Bad about the car I Love
Honda City - Infotainment display unit, rear view camera needs to be crisper, Armrest needs to be longer, Hate the chrome nose which is a bug magnet, Better noise damping expected (even a Baleno gets a felt wheel well lining), Music system needs to be updated, Rattling noise from headliner in the initial batches (I own this and I have fixed / fixing most of these issues / accepted the negatives and moved on)
VW Virtus/ Skoda Slavia - Dont like the dash and service nightmares, DSG issues
Mahindra Thar (current 3 door model) - Rear seat access and legroom in the rear seats
Mahindra XUV700 - Flashy exterior styling not to my taste
Jeep Compass - Price, price, price. Petrol engine wasn't great (thankfully it is discontinued now if I am not wrong)
Tata Nexon - Egg shaped styling not to my taste
VW Taigun/ Skoda Kushaq - Too small and narrow for the price (apologies to current owners but these should be classified as tall hatchbacks than SUVs)
Toyota Innova - Can't shake the cab image of my head (This issue lives in my head)
Isuzu D-Max - Rear seats too upright for family / long drives
Something bad in the cars I love:
1) My Honda City e:HEV:
Best overall package in the segment in my humble opinion with brilliant performance, efficiency, tech and comfort but the NVH,i.e. road and wind noise feels like a cheap hatchback.
2) My Suzuki Kizashi:
My favourite car in that segment of all time with brilliant CBU build and material quality, stunning design, fantastic performance and shockingly good driving dynamics but maintenance costs and imported spare parts availability today will make you question your sanity (whoever said Marutis are cheap and easy to maintain:)).
3)Hyundai IONIQ 5:
The most value for money luxury EV with brilliant design, packaging, powertrain and quality but lacks an AWD option which would’ve drastically enhanced the value of the car.
Something good in the cars I hate:
1) MQB A0 IN VAGs:
VW Skoda have dropped the ball in their made for India cars in terms of interior quality or premium feel with poor hard plastics, premature squeaks and rattles and mediocre equipment but they’re still fantastic to drive and have great safety ratings.
2) Toyota Fortuner:
Ridiculously overpriced for what it offers with poor NVH, ride and equipment but price aside it’s extremely capable off road and very reliable.
3) Maruti SPresso:
Looks are not my cup of tea, to call it an SUV is sacrilegious, and driving dynamics are nervous but the performance is decently peppy.
Things I don't like about cars I like :
1. VAG PQ platform cars(polo, vento, rapid): expensive ASS
2. Renault Duster: features and ergonomics
3. 1st gen Honda Amaze: very average build quality and poor NVH levels
4. Mahindra ScorpioN: bumpy ride quality
5. VAG MQB A0 IN cars: interior quality and rattles
(this part goes on and on and on.. lol:)
Now things I like about cars I don't like :
1. 1st gen Hyundai Creta/ 2nd gen Verna: 1.6 crdi diesel engine's performance and its refinement
2. Hyundai Alcazar: Captain seats
3. Tata Tigor: build quality and safety
4. MG Astor: feature distribution and pricing
Honda city 4th gen - car I hate because of pathetic ac poor suspension.
What I liked - great driving position, great looks, well proportioned and manovourble
My Ford Aspire S - Love everything about it, but hate the boot or the rear sub compact design of the car.
WagonR 2022- Hate the car overall in terms of driving pleasure and NVH, but love the practicality and beater work I use it for.
Ford Aspire - Only the Headlights (were poor, but now made them awesome ;) )
Here goes
Car i love - the abarth punto
What i don't like about it - The size and the shape of the footwell. My boots foul with the plastic surrounding the footwell while operating the pedals. Have to be careful. No such issues with the sneakers / regular leather shoes
Car i don't love - Figo petrol
What i like about it - the AC, even after 12 years it still manages to make "kulfis" out of us.
Would be interesting to see the same for bikes as well!
Bad about cars I love:
Polo. Love the drive. Disappointed in the AC and interiors.
Octavia. Lovely car. Just not fun in the city.
Compass. Awesome car. Badly tuned Diesel AT
Thar. Great to look at. That's all that's going good for it.
