Hi everyone,

I'm currently in the New York area, hence this question.

I need help with figuring out the differences between the Wagon R VXi & LXi models. The Maruti website makes no mention of the difference between them, and besides body colored bumpers/better upholstery/power windows/kenwood stereo (?), I'm not sure what what else the VXi has to offer over the LXi. I'd like to know what the additional Rs. 28k will do.

I've pretty much narrowed down this car as my choice of a birthday present/surprise for my mom, who is in Hyderabad. Given the traffic conditions there, I think a tall-boy design/small car would be easy to putter around in, besides making entry/egress easier.

Having said that, I'm looking for opinions could you talk about an alternative to the Wagon R? In the +/- Rs. 5 lac price range.
I'm not too keen on:
Esteem (dated)
Palio/Petra (visibility)

Do I hear anyone say Getz?

Thanks!
Naveen

hey naveen
what abt santro? plus another good thing i like abt hyundai service is that they pick up and drop the car back home,i am sure your mom would like that.

or an santro automatic??

leaving this aside, why dont you buy your mom a reva? u can see plenty revas in hyd, and it would be very easy for her to drive it

well
the getz is as big as the petra so i also would suggest the santro and wagonR
the wagon is bigger from inside and a bit more powerfull and has better FE and service
the hyundai however has better quality and their service is just awesome ....
but the backseat is a bit cramped and uncomfortable

the difference between the lxi and vxi is -
music system
wheel caps
not sure bout coloured bumpers tough

both have front power windows and the vxi is just another trick to get customers to pay more.

if u dont mind auto, there is nothing better than the santro automatic though..

I think LXI dosent have front power windows
It has only Power steering and central locking more than the LX

The vxi has colored bumpers , music system, front PW, maybe a rear viper, better fabric, etc

Are u sure.... music system?....

i think the only difference is....
coloured bumpers
front power windows
key in- reminder
headlight- reminder
rear wiper and washer
155/65 R13 - .. (lxi 145/70 R13)
tachometer
leather wrapped steering
some fabric on doors... i think.
vanity mirror .. behind the left sun shade
5 door manual central locking ... (as against 4 in Lxi)

maybe 1 or 2 things more.

when i bought WagonR.... I don't know y I didn't consider Vxi. As now I regret, b'coz these small things are invaluable..... u can't get them after buying Lxi.

Just go for the Vxi.

the biggest diff is the 155/65r13 tubeless tires in the vxi.
dunno if it has alloy rims .but i think it has .
then the rear window defogger ,which i dont think i necessary here in india.also u get the all important tacho.,body cloored bumpers.

Naveen,

Since its a gift and you do have a budget of 5 lacs, go for the Getz. Its way superior to the Wagon...and a fresh-in-the-market product always makes a better gift. You cant go wrong with hyundais service either

Music sysytem is absent in the VXI also
and the tachometer is there in theLXI also , guess it is there in all the models including the LX

neways , I would prefer the Santro for ur mom Navin , the gearshift and visibility in the santro are just superb.

the Getz is also great , but maybe slightly bigger for yr mom.

Thanks for all the answers. It will be the VXi, if its gonna be the Wagon R. I was hoping to hear that the VXi had alloys though

I guess I'll wait awhile to hear of reports of how the Getz is doing before taking the plunge.

Maybe you guys could help me work my way around the dilemma I'm in: I'd want to take delivery of the car on Dec 22nd, which is my mom's birthday. Now I know if I wait a little more than a week, the car would then be deemed a 2005 model. Think it's worth the wait?

.. no, Tacho... is only in Vxi.... .. as i own a Lxi.

I don't think it is worth waiting.. for .. the 2005 model. ..
First.. ... u r buying it for driving.. and... not for reselling.
Second... U'll probably get more discounts in Dec.
...
..
I also did buy in December....

Well since i own an lxi, what is the closest i can get to vxi... can i change to high profile tubeless tires as in vxi.. what about tacho and rear defogger.... and a rear spoiler (man i saw a black vxi with rear spoiler... think its the most beautiful car i have ever seen...looks like a true japanese wagon...)

the vxi also has fog lamps, roof rails ..it wud be better if u go for a vxi.if u retro fit these items afterwards its gonna cost u more.
only a music system is absent.
its really difficult for 5 people to sit comfortably in the wagon r as the center line of the middle person in the rear bench matches exactly with the partition of the rear seats .so thats not at all comfortable.

if ur mom has driven before then i feel u cud go for the getz as its a more superior vehicle.
but if this is her first car that she wud be driving ,then i think the wagon r wud be more practical as there are bound to be scratches and dents when she is learning to drive.so obviously the parts of a maruti wud be more cheaper than a getz.
a 2005 model wud be a better buy.
